Offers an in-line DLP and policy copying features along with impressive stability

  • June 05, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

In Qatar industries, the legacy systems like the Bluecoat Proxy is still being used, these solutions work at a limited capacity. For instance, one of our organization's customers is in the Oil & Gas transportation business with tankers, if a company like them wants to deploy a proxy solution, physical proxy deploy is very complicated for such companies, therefore our organization proposes a cloud proxy solution to them like Zscaler DLP.

There are several cloud proxy solutions in the market, but Zscaler DLP provides the lowest latency rates due to the presence of global enforcement nodes in the solution. Whenever a potential customer approaches our company, which has a large workforce, has offices distributed across a wide geography and is in need of a cloud-based solution, we suggest Zscaler DLP for comprehensive global control.

What is most valuable?

The in-line DLP feature is one of the most vital features of the solution. Data security is a global concern, like in Europe there is the EDPR, while Qatar has its own data protection laws, so at our organization while data gets classified using different tools like Boldon James, security control in transit remains a concern so the in-line DLP policy is a valuable feature in Zscaler DLP that remains absent in most other products. Zscaler DLP takes care of the security when data is in motion.

What needs improvement?

The technical team in our company suggests there are some performance issues with the solution once the module addition begins. For instance, suppose I am using Zscaler Internet Access, and the connectivity speed is excellent, but the moment I start integrating some add-ons like DLP, then the solution considerably slows down in functionality.

But I believe the aforementioned instance or scenario is acceptable because an initial data check gets performed upon integration and it probably can be solved by the vendor through some alterations in the architecture. The set of features provided by Zscaler DLP is enough for the market in which our company operates.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Zscaler DLP for two and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability an eight out of ten. It's a highly stable solution. The product consistently functions all the time, but it slows down a couple of times when a large-scale data transfer is being processed that involves multiple policy checks.

Zscaler DLP almost never crashes, and when it does rarely, it's very specific to the customer environment. When some changes are made to the deployed product upon the customer's suggestion, initially, some instability arrives, which is then fixed through fine-tuning.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability an eight out of ten. The Zscaler DLP is extremely scalable and we have experienced it hands-on in our organization. One of the customers of our company was beginning operations in the Philippines, and they were already using Zscaler DLP in other locations like Kuwait and Jordan; they asked us to increase the license numbers and deploy the same Zscaler DLP solution for their Philippines location as well, the entire process was smoothly completed by our team.

I believe the downscaling of the solution is as easy as upscaling. Around 80 to 90 customers of our organization are using Zscaler DLP. The customer portfolio of our company for Zscaler DLP comprises 20% government enterprises, 60% are medium-scale businesses, and the rest are small-scale businesses.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support team has been responsive enough to our organization's queries in Qatar. In our company, we had to reach out for customer support on very few occasions. I would rate the tech support an eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

I would rate the initial setup an eight out of ten. Our organization implements the setup operations and transitions of Zscaler DLP for each customer. Rarely the deployment team of our company has faced some challenges, but it has been due to the unique customer environments, server placements and connection requirements.

About 95% of the deployments have been carried out in our organization without any obstacles. Our organization always deploys Zscaler DLP on the cloud.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's an affordable solution. I would rate the pricing a six out of ten. Once after deployment, you start bundling up additional components, the cost significantly increases. When compared to the cost of a competitor solution and the quality of Zscaler DLP, the price of the solution is justified.

Some customers who are familiar with other product environments of Palo Alto or Cisco might find Zscaler DLP a bit expensive when looking at it from an environment compatibility or opportunity perspective.

What other advice do I have?

For companies that have operations across the globe, it's crucial for them to have the same set of data security controls and measures across all locations; Zscaler DLP helps in such implementations. For instance, if there are certain enforcement policies or data security norms implemented for the headquarters of an organization, Zscaler DLP allows a professional to just copy the implemented policies of one location to another, irrespective of the site members or users.

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten. I would advise others to perform due diligence before directly adopting the product, but just because the product is the market leader doesn't mean it will fit perfectly into every environment.

I always analyze the customer's requirements and existing environment before proposing the best solution. If integrating Zscaler DLP into a Palo Alto environment will create difficulties, then it's better to choose a solution from Palo Alto.

Secure and scalable internet access, maintaining stability, providing robust technical support and ensuring consistent policy enforcement across various user locations

  • January 15, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It ensures a secure online environment for our users, irrespective of their location. By routing all internet traffic through the Zscaler Cloud, users can browse safely, shielded from malicious content. Whether connected from the office or home network, Zscaler enforces our defined policies consistently.

Using ZPA VPN users can connect to internal Network in secured way.

How has it helped my organization?

Our users experience a safe and secure internet connection, whether they are in the office or connecting via their home Wi-Fi network or a public network. The Zscaler policy governs their internet access consistently, eliminating the reliance on individual IPs.

What is most valuable?

We utilize a shared security VPN for users to establish a connection between their devices and the Zscaler Cloud, enabling them to access the office network. This secure connection allows users to connect to the Zscaler VPN and access the resources on the office network, making it a highly valuable component of our system.

What needs improvement?

Occasionally, issues arise particularly for government websites accessed by numerous users from all over country using Zscaler IP Range. This can trigger false positives, causing certain IP ranges to be perceived as a security threat or associated with malicious activities, resulting in blocks. In such instances, we often find ourselves waiting for the block to be lifted or having to engage with the concerned website administrators. This is where Zscaler's expertise becomes crucial in addressing false positive blocks, as these incidents might not necessarily indicate malicious intent but could be errors affecting access to the platform. Zscaler need to look into the solution, how Traffic getting generated towards such websites should not cross the threshold level of traffic getting generated from certain Zscaler IPs and getting resulted in block mode situation.

For how long have I used the solution?

We are using it for more three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It demonstrates overall stability and effectively upholds the smooth functioning of the entire infrastructure. We haven't encountered any issues with it. I would rate it nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, our current setup is sufficient for our needs. We have a user base exceeding ten thousand. It's a ubiquitous tool for everyone in the business. Nearly all users utilize it for internet browsing every single day. I would rate it nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support team effectively manages and provides robust support for the solution. I would rate it eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used Websense before, but Zscaler maintains consistent policies whether users are in the office, at home, or in public places, offering a more convenient experience.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process was time-consuming and encountered issues, particularly with logs. Although I wasn't present during the setup, it has been reported that significant time and numerous challenges were involved. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate it five.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment itself didn't take much time, but the challenge arose in identifying and resolving issues faced by numerous users. It took considerable time to pinpoint these issues. Maintenance is handled with support directly from Zscaler, and our existing security admin team oversees the management of both Zscaler Cloud and their skills.

What was our ROI?

We have observed a return on investment in a stable setup, ensuring secure internet access for users and instilling trust in the solution.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend anyone contemplating this product to carefully consider it. They can evaluate and explore the solution by taking a demo to better understand the technology. Once satisfied with the demo, they can proceed with rolling out the solution. Overall, I would rate it eight out of ten.

A stable and fast solution with an easy-to-use user interface and useful threat intelligence

  • November 22, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to build zero-trust networks. We use it to block everything except the trusted URLs. We get a bunch of URLs from the customers, whitelist them in the solution, and everything else is blocked automatically.

An URL must be whitelisted for users to access it. When a customer tells us they need a particular URL, we analyze it and send it for approval. Once it is approved, we whitelist the URL for the user. The solution is useful for zero-trust and DLP.

What is most valuable?

The UI is easy to use. All the options are accessible.

What needs improvement?

The product has limited features. We only have the option to monitor URLs and HTTPS logs. The tool must provide IP-blocking features.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for more than three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable. For the past three years, I haven't seen it break down. I rate the stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s scalability a seven out of ten. When we search for logs, it doesn’t take much time. It’s quite fast, even if we have a lot of logs. We use more than 1000 URLs in a day. Getting the logs in real-time is quite important. Four of our customers are using the solution. We have 30,000 to 40,000 users.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Symantec DLP.

How was the initial setup?

The engineering team sets up the tool. We use the tool to analyze user behavior during incidents. We can see whether URLs accessed by the users were approved by the organization.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is a bit expensive.

What other advice do I have?

We take support from Zscaler and provide the service to our clients. We are partners. People who want to use the product must explore the options. We can do multiple things for a single URL. We can restrict URLs to only access the GET request or POST request. We can do HTTP control and SSL inspection. We can also access the threat intel. We can look up a URL and get the details in real-time. Overall, I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It’s a SaaS platform. It enables enterprise security and provides the advantage of SaaS applications while protecting our valuable digital assets from cyber threats.

What is most valuable?

The product provides a seamless user experience. It provides enhanced security, SSO login, and real-time visibility. Data protection is fine.

What needs improvement?

The product is not reliable. ZTNA must be improved. It is slow sometimes. It is unreliable. It’s lengthy to troubleshoot.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable. There are no vulnerabilities. Everything works well. It provides real-time threat updates and monitoring.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is scalable. Almost 60 to 70% of the people in my company are using the solution. Our entire network is on Zscaler.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good. When we raise an incident, the team provides support immediately. Support depends on whether we have a normal license or a premium one.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using other platforms like McAfee before. We switched to Zscaler because we needed a solution that is easy to handle, deploy, and monitor. We needed real-time monitoring.

How was the initial setup?

The solution provides ease of deployment. We do not require any physical appliance. We must have an understanding of the technology. There are two tunnels. We must know which tunnel is which tunnel will secure our network better.

The solution is deployed on the private cloud provider Zscaler Private Access and the public cloud provider Zscaler Internet Access. It is easy to deploy the tool on any cloud like AWS and Azure.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the product to others. The reliability and monitoring features must be improved. The traffic flow is slow sometimes. Overall, I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

A comprehensive and flexible solution for digital experience monitoring and protecting against various threats with seamless integration, straightforward implementation and versatile security features

  • November 16, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use it for conducting security incident investigations and generating security reports. It serves as a valuable tool in analyzing and responding to security events, and its capabilities are instrumental in producing comprehensive reports on the security status of the network.

How has it helped my organization?

It proved to be invaluable in addressing our challenge of not having a rigid perimeter. With employees working from various locations, the need to move away from VPN reliance became apparent. Following thorough assessments, we opted to continue using it as our cloud Web Access solution.

What is most valuable?

It stands out for its seamless integration with various security solutions, such as EDR, SOAR, etc. The implementation process is straightforward, requiring minimal ongoing maintenance. The desktop agent enhances endpoint protection against zero-day vulnerabilities, providing a safeguard until patches are released. Its adaptability extends beyond a single solution, allowing integration with different models and solutions. The alert detection system and additional security features add an extra layer of appeal. The flexibility to start with one aspect and expand within a single vendor is advantageous. The agent's versatility is notable, used for digital experience monitoring to collect valuable endpoint metrics for troubleshooting. The security browser function distinguishes between known safe sites and potentially suspicious ones, ensuring a secure browsing experience. Unfamiliar websites are run in the Zscaler Cloud, isolating them from the endpoint and preventing potential phishing or malicious scripts from reaching the user's device.

What needs improvement?

Occasionally, there are certain delays in report generation. Clicking on a link, I found myself waiting for an unpredictable duration—sometimes as long as thirty seconds to a minute—until the report was ready.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with it for over a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There have been instances where certain software or applications on the user side didn't work smoothly. This posed an additional onboarding challenge, requiring collaboration with technical support to analyze logs, generate reports, and identify necessary exclusions or policies to rectify the issue. Once addressed, the applications resumed normal functioning.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's highly scalable, and I frequently receive notifications about new data center expansions. With around five thousand endpoints, I am not aware of any problems that have been discussed as requiring a change of solution.

What about the implementation team?

I gained access to the web console, and within an hour, I comprehended its capabilities, which I found appealing. Beyond predefined reports, the platform enables users to retrieve any imaginable information. Creating a visual search request is a straightforward process, delivering the required data through a user-friendly interface.

What was our ROI?

The implementation has effectively addressed numerous challenges related to ensuring a secure internet connection for users.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

When we conducted assessments, Cisco and Microsoft were also considered. However, at that time, Cisco was in the initial stages of developing their solution, and Microsoft had just released their web security gateway.

What other advice do I have?

When making a decision, choosing a market leader is often advisable. While the initial cost may be slightly higher, the long-term savings in both time and money, as well as the reduction in operational costs, often outweigh the investment. Opting for a leading product can also mitigate potential issues and challenges that might arise with newer or less-established alternatives. Overall, I would rate it eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

Offers good stability and zero-trust technologies

  • November 06, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

This is the primary Private Access solution, the VPN solution.

What is most valuable?

Zscaler brought a new concept to the world or to the networks, basically introducing the zero-trust technologies of the product to bring in the buzzword about it and then make it a norm or create it as a norm.

So, this is a product that can give you zero trust when it comes to the VPN solution compared to the legacy VPN. So, it has become a mandate to manage.

What needs improvement?

Zscaler Private Access does not currently offer the ability to assign static IP addresses, which are necessary for supporting telephony or backend communication.

While Zscaler supports client-initiated connections, it does not support server-initiated connections. This is a feature that Zscaler may consider adding in the future.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. We have around 5,000 end users using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are okay. I am not a fan of the service.

The response time is long, and the willingness is lacking. They are not eager to support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

My company used Pulse Secure and SonicWall.

With the zero-trust concept coming in across the secure, we wanted to try out Zscaler and see whether it worked well for our organization. So that's the reason we switched to Zscaler.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

With the VPN solutions that sort of pretty much expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend using the solution. I would rate it around eight out of ten because it is a good product. I don't have any major concerns as such.

The competition is not up to the level; Netskope is doing well. Palo Alto and other products have just launched their products within the previous two or three quarters, and the market is yet to try their tech work, but Zscaler is a tested product, and it is doing good.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Helps us manage network traffic and has an easy setup process

  • October 25, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the product for the process protocol for tunnels to manage network traffic.

What needs improvement?

They should work on a replica account. There could be alerts and replica files sent to the DLP team during data collection.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Zscaler Cloud DLP for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the product’s stability an eight out of ten. We encounter high latency for cloud data centers.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product’s scalability depends on specific requirements. We manage more than 50 Zscaler Cloud DLP accounts for customers. We have created certain rules to cover and manage our sensitive data. I rate the scalability a ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

They should assign an L2 engineer to resolve the issue. The L1 engineer takes time to identify and elaborate on the problem.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Our organization has used Symantec, Trend Micro, and McAfee.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy. It doesn’t take much time and depends on the IP server requirements.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Zscaler Cloud DLP an eight out of ten. I recommend it for customer service companies to protect sensitive data.

Offers flexibility in deployment and module and the capability to define policies based on user categories, streaming, and data protection

  • October 18, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

There's a different mechanism and modules. For example,  ZIA is primarily for internet access from the user's side. We can forward the traffic using the ZIA client connector agent installed on user machines like laptops and desktops.

Users can log in using their credentials and even use single sign-on. Once logged in, their traffic is forwarded to the Zscaler cloud.

Based on the user profile, we can define policies on what type of content they can access, like streaming or specific file types. It provides data protection as well.

Alternatively, there's another configuration. If we can't install an agent, we can forward traffic using a PAC file URL to Zscaler servers.

What is most valuable?

With Zscaler, there are various modules like ZIA, private access, and digital exchange. All focus on internet access, but there's a concept where all traffic is forwarded using the Zscaler agent.

Previously, they used a different portal where traffic from tools like Jira and FortiGate was allowed. The issue was that third-party applications weren't always supported. We had to configure them manually, and often we had to forward traffic to the Zscaler Cloud.

What needs improvement?

On the improvement side, when we bypass certain internet traffic types, it's currently recommended to have a one-click option, but audio and video aren't always supported. Thus, we need to bypass that kind of traffic. So, it is an area of improvement.

Another issue is with DNS exclusions and internet bypasses. Even if we put some URLs into DNS exclusion, it doesn't always work. So we often have to use a VPN gateway bypass. If they provided functional DNS exclusions and internet bypasses, it'd be much smoother.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for the last three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

If I had to provide a rating between one to ten, I'd give it a seven out of ten. Some areas need improvement, like classification understanding, general and fingerprinting. Some classifications aren't adequately addressed by the DLP rules they provide.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are very good because we have dedicated team support on that and a dedicated customer success manager also. If the technical team doesn't resolve within the alert timing, I can escalate, and they assign a senior person to the call.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The current era is moving towards having a single agent manage everything. We can set up the SAP. Previously, we were using the proxy solution. This is on-prem and very hectic to manage. And policy synchronization was also a challenge.

Zscaler is a SaaS-based solution, making it easy for users from any location to connect. It's very easy to use with minimal operational challenges. Not just Zscaler, but other SaaS solutions like NetScope and Palo Alto as well.

How was the initial setup?

As for the DLP, there's a web-based version and a hosted ERP version. I haven't tested the OS DLP capabilities yet, but the web-based version is in line.

What about the implementation team?

There are around 50,000 end users in our organization. In my organization, I'm part of the COE group, Centralope Accelerate, and I'm in charge of projects, implementations, and escalated support issues.

I have three team members under me at a proxy level, and then there are about ten people at level one. They handle basic troubleshooting, and if they can't resolve issues, they escalate to level two or even to me.

What was our ROI?

When I look back two or three years, I feel it's worth it. The product has been good for our infrastructure and has positively changed our user experience.

However, in the current scenario, we need to think more strategically and consider integrating other services like private access, DLP, CASB, etc.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's expensive currently. But when purchasing for a large number of users, there's room to negotiate. It's really up to the procurement team.

From my experience, it's a pricey product, but with a larger user count, there's flexibility in the pricing.

What other advice do I have?

If your requirements are at an intermediate level and you need to access DMC, then I would recommend this solution. If you require more detailed data classification, you might want to consider Netscope as they provide very granular classification. However, it really depends on the company's needs and requirements.

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

I have been using Zscaler CASB for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Zscaler CASB is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Zscaler CASB is a scalable solution because it is a cloud-based solution. Around 30% of the industry people are using Zscaler CASB.

How are customer service and support?

Zscaler CASB's technical support is good. The solution's support team is available, but they don't have much visibility of what is happening and take too much time to resolve it.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

Zscaler CASB's initial setup is easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

As per industry leads, Zscaler CASB is an expensive solution.

What other advice do I have?

Zscaler CASB is deployed on-cloud in our organization.

I would recommend Zscaler CASB to other users. Zscaler CASB has a seamless deployment. The solution needs to improve on the navigation or user experience part.

Overall, I rate Zscaler CASB an eight out of ten.
