Great tool and best support team
What do you like best about the product?
The support team is great and vendors and PMs find the tool very much user friendly. It allows for multiple file formats and is usually reliable on the tech side of things.
What do you dislike about the product?
The payment structure that has changed now for LSPs is not transparent. It's not convenient to invest much in this tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Phrase helps us assign tasks to multiple translators by allowing for customization right at project creation + we can handle various file formats.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Memsource has everything any translation company or linguist needs and they're support team is always ready to help
Very useful when translating in many languages fast
What do you like best about the product?
It is really easy to use, and it helps a lot in when you need to translate specific phrases from different sections of an app.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't dislike anything at the moment...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Translating app to other languages really fast
Quick and dirty solution for small jobs, too limited for more demanding ones
What do you like best about the product?
For someone new to CAT tools, Memsource is quick and simple to learn and use. The quickly accessible repetitions filter is a nice feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
An experienced translator will soon find out that the free version of Memsource lacks some essential productivity features.
- No analysis feature! This makes tracking progress difficult, especially in larger projects that contain fuzzy matches.
- Cumbersome QA. No 'ignore all' feature for individual words in spell check, no permanent ignore list either. This is often a massive time sink and also a quality hazard since there are often too many false positives.
- Buggy editor. The editor has a nasty intermittent bug that results in the few last changes/translated segments getting undone when the file is opened the next day, although the changes/translations get saved in the TM. I have discussed this with Memsource support a few times to no avail.
- No possibility to create a TM-like document pool that supports the job at hand. Such a feature exists, for example, in MemoQ (where it is called LiveDocs) and is incredibly helpful.
- No 'muse' feature, i.e., no way of turning a TM into autocomplete phrases.
- No possibility to create or add TMs of your own.
- No alignment feature.
- Too little power to the translator in general.
All in all, Memsource is a quick and dirty option for small translation jobs, but anything larger, more complex or demanding, and its lack of productivity features starts to show. This also has a negative impact on the translator's financial results. I have personally turned down some Memsource jobs for this reason. The paid version might be different, but better options are available.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not many, since there are better options that experienced translators prefer, and it is their opinion you should listen to very carefully when selecting a CAT tool/Translation Management System.
Memsource promised me a $25 gift card for this review, so I suppose that can be considered a benefit.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Memsouce might be a good first step to the world of CAT tools, but remember that tools like MemoQ and Trados Studio have much better productivity features. The time you invest in learning them will bring you great dividends.
Very insightful
What do you like best about the product?
Firstly the pace of the course, and the trainer (he was able to explain everything clearly - spot on!)
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing, really. Maybe a mock-up program to test out all the functionalities would have been great. Apart from that, I am delighted with the course!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Project management side is quintessential when it comes to localizing
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use Memsource as it would make your life easier
Great tool for translators!
What do you like best about the product?
Flexible and easy to use for beginners. The support team is always helpful and quick to reply. I like that progress is saved automatically and the integration with the client's TMS and glossaries.
What do you dislike about the product?
I still haven't found anything I don't like.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps me provide a better service to my clients by improving the exchange of information.
Responsive Phrase Support
What do you like best about the product?
A few days back, I encountered a problem figuring out why format_options isn't applying when being configured in .phrase.yml through android studio plugin. I raised this concern in phrase support, and luckily we found out that it's an undocumented bug in using the phrase plugin for android studio. Someone from phrase support recommended using the CLI for it, and fortunately, everything seems to work as desired. Having responsive support meant so much for both ends, especially on our side, working under some time frames.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not so much, maybe I would just suggest for the phrase team to thoroughly update all the needed documentation to make it more informative on the users side knowing that a particular functionatility is either working or not. This is to cause no further headaches and delays on debugging on the end users side. :)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working on localization to provide a rich user experience to various users is quite uneasy to handle, but with phrase, the complexity in managing this type of task is lessened and makes the developers more productive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go and try using Phrase. It is such a good tool for handling localization/translation management.
User-friendly interface
What do you like best about the product?
The interface is easy to use and teach. Among all the CAT tools presented in the Translation Technologies and Translation Project Management courses, Memsource has been the most preferred one due to its user-friendly interface and fast technical support when needed. Students can learn about the steps of a translation project from start to end by logging into a single CAT tool and they can explore it themselves without much need for guidance as the interface is easy to adapt.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing I dislike about Memsource.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Memsource to teach students about CAT tools in Translation Technologies and Translation Project Management courses. I have realized that for new learners, Memsource is the easiest to adapt, thanks to its user-friendly interface. We find everything we need quickly on the homepage. Also, we like its all-in-one approach from project creation to quoting and from direct communication within the team to Client review. Another benefit is the training material offered by Memsource. Both the online training materials and the free webinars offered on a regular basis keep the users up-to-date and engaged.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend Memsource for instructors who want to focus more on practice and lose less time on solving the technical problems encountered by the students. With the help of the technical support team, courses become much more productive. Also, the training material and webinars offered by Memsource help students engage in a larger community of professionals and provide them with valuable insights. These benefits are applicable for freelance translators as well.
Great and simple tool
What do you like best about the product?
Searching content in source and target is simple thanks to dedicated imput fields. It is possible to work in web or desktop editor, Machine translation provided by clients is seamlessly integrated. When project is prepared well, the user does not need to establish any MT, TM or glossary connections and can work on the file straight away. The tool is seamlessly integrated into client's TMS, so there is no need for e-mail communication, downloading files TMs, glossaries etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Concordance search could be more accessible, there is a separate window for the Search funkctionality, which causes the user to hide TM hits. It might be better. Glossary hits are not easy to notice, a Wordfast-like glossary recognition system would help a lot. QA often takes too long and has to be re-run after any changes in the translated file. Often it is not possible to deliver the file without ignoring all the false negatives. I also miss an export function, which would help me valdate the file in external tools, such as word, Xbench etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is a preferred tool for some major clients, and its ease of use makes such jobs effective and attractive for me. With some other clients, which insist on using their own preferred tools and invironments, this requirement reduces my effectiveness, causing the jobs to be less attractive to me and I am less likely to accept them. This is not the case with Memsource.
Memsource adaptive workflow and translation management
What do you like best about the product?
In Memsource, you can specify unique workflows per each content type and/or product line. Because memsource is heavily invested in endpoint APIs, you can define any type of workflow based on your criteria and requirements.
- For legal, we have full workflow Translation, editing, review, and review #2
- for Support, we have a partial workflow in translation and editing
- for production UI, we have a different workflow depends on the language. Some languages go through T, E, and R while others go to T and E, or T and R.
also, we are focusing on vendor-agnostic model and Memsource can support this type as well. Each vendor is assigned per job, and a job equals to a language. That means 10 jobs, 2 jobs can assign to vendor A and 8 jobs can assign to vendor B.
Lastly, Memsource support varieties of Machine Translation + built-in as well so you can use some of the top MT engines

What do you dislike about the product?
Termbase is still lacking the industry standard and the permission level needs to improve.
They just recently deployed a Google Chrome plug-in for termbase import/export and it's a one step further to automatically push any new terms for translations and sync back to the glossary. I think more improvement is definitely needed such as a rejection/approval, dashboard...etc

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Customization and flexibility on how a translation project can be handled by vendors. As we are approaching vendor-agnostic models, using Memsource is helping us to stay in a single tech platform, but working with multiple vendors at once.
Review about Memsource
What do you like best about the product?
The CAT tool is very complete and has many functions and features. The Memsource team is constantly improving and adding new functionalities. The account management is quite helpful and always willing to listen to our proposals.
