Memsource is easy to use, the tools are easy to learn and has a great accuracy.
What do you like best about the product?
I can access it from anywhere, the interface is great and intuitive. And the shortcuts are very easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
The division sometimes is incorrect, so I have to join segments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to finish the translations faster, I've been able to create my own glossary and adding words is easy. I am more productive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn how to manage the glossaries and profiles (linguist/translator) beforehand.
Amazing CAT tool
What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to find your way around
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish Memsource worked with INDD files.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can communicate, assign, deliver, and review content in one place. I love this!
Best management system for translation projects
What do you like best about the product?
I have been working with Phrase for over 7 years now and I absolutely love its user-friendly interface, also the fact that it is a very complete tool for translating and managing translation projects, which makes it ideal for group work and collaboration. It offers all we need and keeps improving and adding updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't think of anything I dislike about it, honestly. I keep on choosing Phrase because it is a great tool for me, and I do not expect that to change if it keeps improving.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Phrase since it was Memsource to manage translation projects and meet the needs of an international network. We have continuous translation projects of all kinds involving several languages. Phrase just makes my life and my job easier. The most important benefit I have realized is productivity, it allows me to keep track of all projects in an organized and efficient way so that I can spend more time on translation.
Learning curve may be higher in Memsource than in SmartCAT, but is totally worth!
What do you like best about the product?
What I liked best about Memsource after watching the introductory workshop for project managers is that you are in control of all the features and fine-tuning settings, which makes it highly customizable.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve is certainly higher, as compared to SmartCAT, for example. But it is totally worth it because behind the simplicity of the latter lies the fact that you are not allowed to make your own choices in many of the settings. Also, the fact that they are becoming more and more business / money-driven makes me sad, as I use these tools in my classes to teach translation to apprentices and in my research projects. Memsource will be my new tool of choice from now on, and I'm glad we have already secured an agreement with them in my University.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I will be using Memsource to manage several translations projects in the University I work as a professor of translation practice. We work with a large number of translation projects involving a several students and faculty members, as well as external collaborators and service commissioners from the community. It is very difficulto to control the work flux without a tool like this. We've been doing this is SmartCAT, but are no longer happy with it, both because it does not allow to control several features of the projects, but also becuase they are not being considerate to our needs as an academic institution. So I am very excited with the possibility of working more closely with Memsource for our mutual benefit.
Great level of accessibility for new translators
What do you like best about the product?
I teach translation at the master's level. What I've found in the past with other systems is that students who have never encountered a Computer-Aided Translation system can very quickly become lost in the mountain of features that may be very useful but are also intimidating for someone just starting. In addition, it can be that CAT tools don't seem that useful until you have translated a sizeable chunk of text, so you can see that it is actually doing something. Finally, I've previously found it problematic that some other systems only work on one platform or another, meaning that if students don't happen to have that operating system, they're stuck. In each respect, Memsource makes my life easy. The features are very intuitive and laid out in an uncluttered way, which means that although the system is very powerful, new learners don't get intimidated by it. Second, because it is cloud-based, I can have all the students work on the same project at the same time, with all of their work feeding into the same translation memory. This way, they see results much more quickly and can learn to evaluate the suggestions much better since they know who has created them. Thirdly, because the whole thing works in a web browser, there are none of the issues with compatibility that I used to need to worry about every year with other systems. That means the students can just get on with learning, and I can get on with teaching them.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find the system for signing up new users pretty clunky, with some invitation emails going into spam or just not arriving through the university's filters for some reason. I'd prefer a way to sign people up with a temporary password which they could change the first time they logged in rather than all the back and forth of emails. If you have 25 students, that's a lot of confused emails, and isn't a good introduction to how straightforward the software is to use in general.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm finding it much easier to give the students agency over their learning. I can just set up projects and let them work out the solutions by themselves, rather than me needing to stand over them and guide them through every stage. I feel this is leading to them learning how to integrate CAT into their workflows in a much more meaningful way. They have also been able to integrate the use of the tool into their own research, which is exciting for the field as a whole.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's definitely worth giving it a try. I previously used another piece of software for the same purposes for several years. But the pandemic and home teaching meant that was not possible last year. But now we're back in the classroom and I'm sticking with Memsource, because I've found it so much easier than the other software to get the job done.
Collaboration at its best
What do you like best about the product?
I like the fact that linguists, copywriters, designers and developers can collaborate so easily with this tool. It's also been very easy to learn about Phrase and how to use it. The training provided is very useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
I honestly cannot think of anything that I dislike so far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Phrase is going to help us with our ways of work by contributing to efficiency. It will also help us to minimize linguistic and technical bugs that result from a siloed product creation process.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
An easy tool with loads of benefits. Worth considering.
Phrase (and its GitHub integration) really improved the communication between devs and UX writers
What do you like best about the product?
I loved how easy it is for UX writers to create new translations and sync them with GitHub so we were able to automate the whole translations deployment in both web and mobile apps.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'd like to have a faster search engine for filtering and finding keys whenever we need them. Also some other totally non-vital features such as a list of recently changed keys and a way of automatically detecting changes and syncing with GitHub without human intervention.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using Phrase for creating translations for our 12 supported countries and automatically deploy them within our release pipelines. Also, we're using Phrase for storing a history of our release notes of our mobile apps, which are automatically attached to the binaries when deploying to production.
I joined in 2021 and glad I did
What do you like best about the product?
The certification program was the most helpful
What do you dislike about the product?
I was initially unsure about the acquisition, but I guess these dynamics are inevitable for companies to survive
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problems to localization and the steps required for reaching a global audience without sacrificing anything-
Without Memsource, my job wouldn't be the same.
What do you like best about the product?
Memsource is a really strong and well-defined CAT tool, and it's by far the greatest cloud-based solution I've ever used. I would recommend it to translators for projects in which an intuitive user interface is critical to productivity because it is incredibly straightforward to understand and use.
What do you dislike about the product?
It doesn't have a manual that you can refer to when you first start using it; you simply need to learn how it works by doing so. Also, customizable colors would be a plus.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work in a small LSP with not many tolls. I can use Memsource and save some money because it can be used both for translations management, invoices, translation memories, and term bases.
A clever solution to manage localization
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to upload multiple keys at once from a simple spreadsheet. The Figma-integrated features where strings can be pulled and pushed from Figma to Phrase and vice-versa without manual work.
Update: I like the new interface that debuted last year. Previously, it resembled Microsoft Word but it looks sleek now — especially with dark mode. Love how I can see all translations along with the source content of a key easily. The different ways to search for keys are useful (by key name, key value, or Phrase tag), though it would be nice to have a way to search for keys tagged with a certain word or Phrase without providing the exact Phrase tag.

What do you dislike about the product?
The screenshot feature is buggy. When I try to tag keys to a screenshot, the tool crashes at times. Also, the size of the screenshot displayed during the key-tagging area is sometimes too big and cumbersome to tag keys efficiently — I don't know why this happens many times. Sometimes it works fine.
Update: the Phrase-Figma plugin works better now. Previously, it was impossible to run the plugin to pull content from multiple Figma screens to Phrase. Now, it's possible for our teams to use this plugin as our official process to update content between Figma and Phrase. There's still room to improvement here in terms of speed though.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problems solved: using Figma as the single source of truth for content without relying on spreadsheets. Benefits: having a 360 view of my content on Phrase without having to manually update Figma everytime I make content changes + potential ability to manage a content design system on Phrase, albeit with limitations
