My Italian and Chinese Colleagues LOVE PhraseApp

  • January 03, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I was looking for a way to streamline support for 17 languages in our newer Rails App. With our legacy Java apps, the process had been spreadsheets and shipping it off to various translators. Even our own native-speaker colleagues who worked in other parts of the world found the process difficult and error-prone without context.

My colleagues say it best:

"Honestly, it's great!!! It's way too easy and makes the translation more accurate since we know where they are. You know, same words in different place, there are differences in Chinese. I need to do more translation. " -- Howard Z. Managing Director, Xiangyang Specto Technology Company (Exclusive authorized agent for Intelliquip, LLC in China)

"PhraseApp is a really useful tool. the SmarSuggest are smart! At least for Italian. And in case of multiple choice [dealing with singular, plurals, etc], PhraseApp allow to address the appropriate translation to the right place. This feature is available only in App and not In-context. Also the Copy is useful when code is on translation. And Exclude save time when some words doesn't need to be translated." -- Massimo B., Knowledge Engineer, Italy!

"This is a really great way to do translations. The spreadsheet is way too hard to understand context. I love it! I am also surprised that the machine translation was as good as it was. Except for some technical industry terms, it was pretty good!" -- Kyohei Okuhara, Knowledge Engineer, Japanese native speaker

As you can guess, we are not building simple website. We have a complex engineering app to serve as the "Select, Configure, Price, Quote" tool for manufacturers of fluid handling equipment to help sell their products.

The in-context editor is critical for our engineering app. And the ability to work PhraseApp into our development workflow is crucial. The "Auto Pilot" makes it easy to get machine translations to "kick start" a new translation.

I like that I can integrate with Github and Bitbucket. It is now part of our development workflow.

And I would say the support team -- everybody really -- has been fantastic. Whether it is with needing help to get started on the right path, feature suggestions, bug reports, or feedback.
What do you dislike about the product?
The one "issue" that I have encountered (but I have workaround) is as follows:
I use multi-line plain-text markdown for lengthy help text (a markup language that uses characters like "*" for bullets, "#" for heading level, etc.). PhraseApp gets confused and tries to insert newline characters... As I said, I have a workaround so it is not an issue for me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The challenge was how to easily support languages in our new (as of 2016) Rails App used around the world. Our legacy Java app (developed back in 2000) uses a spreadsheet approach and an XML file that seemed arduous given how far the state of the industry has come. We wanted to explore some new ways.

So the benefit has been the ease with which we have been able to add new language support.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I was totally new to i18n, and PhraseApp did a webex or two with me and got me up and running in no time to make sure I did not waste any time fiddling around. And then I was "up and running" by integrating the in-context editor into our app -- including annointing certain individuals with the translator role. It's a fantasic experience.

PhraseApp an easy to use tool for iOS app localization

  • January 03, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
When we started to use PhraseApp in our project, some of the most annoying sources of error disappeared.

As iOS developer you often have to implement a feature that has a design but the wording of the labels in this design is often just placeholder texts, so you create the labels and create some keys for translation later on. Without a service like PhraseApp you now would have to chase your project manager to come up with translations (or he has to chase the customer in return). Now when the translations are ready you will receive the strings from your customer/pm or whatever, in a format that most of the times requires tedious hand copy pasting of the strings. Then after everything is set up the customer remembers that he wants to change the wording on this one key and on the next day another one. Now with the nature of branching software developing this also calls for conflicts.

But with PhraseApp:
1. Developer creates keys in PhraseApp
2. Codes away
3. Person in charge of localization adds translation for keys
4. Everything is updated and ready to use
5. Profit!
What do you dislike about the product?
There is honestly not a single thing I dislike so far. Maybe there are competitors with equally good offerings, I don't know. Also I can't really tell you something about the pricing as our customer takes care of that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- You can easily create and maintain localized software for every language you can think of with zero to no overhead.
- We deploy worldwide using PhraseApp.
- Had mistakes in your translation and the app is deployed? On the fly translation updates got you covered.
- Streamlined coordination of localization workflow.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Please review your localization workflow and take not of every error at every step that happened so far.
When considering PhraseApp you measure the costs associated with all of these incidents and weight it against the cost of PhraseApp.

Positive experience using Memsource to translate

  • December 22, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like most about Memsource is that it is web-based and does not require that I download additional software to my computer in order to use it.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I dislike are the different roles because it is not relevant for a single person using the software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Efficiency. Using Memsource with its term bases and translation memories allows me to complete my projects both quickly and accurately.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Absolutely. It's quite simple to start out!

Wonderful tool for developers to collaborate with translators

  • December 19, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We love that our translators have a robust tool to remotely review and enter translations. It is continually improving and we don't have to support it. The robust API that PhraseApp provides allowed us to build a custom and seamless Visual Studio synchronization process for managing resx files in our .NET solutions.
What do you dislike about the product?
The app is extremely powerful, but with all the features, some translators who are not very technical may require just a bit of ramp-up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Makes very simple the collaboration between developers and translators for gathering translations for resource files.

Really convenient software

  • December 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
PhraseApp is a really smart software, I got quickly used to it and I've found it very easy to navigate. The suggestions mode offered by PA is really helpful in avoiding losing time translating the same thing all over again. I also appreciate the fact I can follow the progression of my tasks through a very clear chart.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the suggestions mode can't seem to find translations I've done before and that could be helpful for my current task.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's a great way to manage translations, translators from all over the world can all connect at the same time and aggregate content that may be helpful to others.

Easy-To-Use Online Translation Platform for Both Newbies and Seasoned Translators

  • December 14, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the intuitively arranged UI where I, as a user, can access all needed tools easily. The search works smoothly and offers fast and proper results. Comments section greatly helps in discussing the best possible expressions for translations, giving suggestions and reporting errors among team members as well as with project manager(s).
What do you dislike about the product?
I would welcome more customizability in terms of the option to arrange and change height/width of panels in the main interface. Besides that, nothing else of substantial importance comes to my mind.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Translating website and webmail client from English into my native language via PhraseApp platform has been a breeze for me so far (<3 months). New resources are regularly added to the project so there is still lot of work ahead of us. But with all the features PhraseApp is offering I am convinced the localization will go as smooth as possible. Looking forward to my future contributions to the localization project I am working on via this online tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You can definitely give it a try. I, as a volunteer translator, am very satisfied with the possibilities PhraseApp offers me for advancing the localization project I am working on.

My PhraseApp Experience

  • December 14, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
PhraseApp makes it easier for the user to find the translations for the necessary language. Moreover, it's a user friendly application in terms of translating texts. And additionally, it is quite easy to learn how to use this app!
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing what I can think of that I dislike about this app.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are can easily modify translation strings for different countries in PhraseApp when copywriters change the text. If there are some translation strings are missing then it's also for us to add them.

Excellent application

  • December 08, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
To have the source and localization text editable at a single page is important for any localization tool, having even handy tools like glossary, history and comments, is a pro. Having the "machine translation" available at the same tool, is not common and much appreciated. Even if the machine translation is not perfect, it saves you some typing, as you have to correct some words or punctuation but, the gross is already "typed".
The best feature is the capacity to work on different project elements so easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sincerely, I've found nothing I dislike on the application besides the common learning curve that any application or system needs. So many features to keep in mind....
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Localization is always a hurdle, having a facility to have not only one localization service for a given language but a whole team is great!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
From my perspective, the best localization solution.

PhraseApp has streamlined the translation process

  • December 06, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the fact that you get to see the UI while translating. This helps in so many ways as context is everything when translating, and having the UI next to me reduces the number of revisions as well as the time to navigate through different Apps to find the exact text I am translating. I also like the fact that everything is saved on a browser. This allows me to access translation from different devices and declutters my desktop of translation documents.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have only been using the app for about a month, but so far, there are nothing I dislike about it so far. Great app overall!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In my opinion, the streamlining of translation is the biggest benefit. It reduces time required for translation and revision which allows me to get other work done.

Single Source of Truth

  • December 04, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I make use of the CLI-API by pushing keys and translations as well as pulling automatically (React i18n / babel for extracting messages and hashed json files for fetching from frontends)
What do you dislike about the product?
Quality comes at a price. For Pet Projects I find it too expensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Single Source of Truth
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I have used phraseApp in the context of Ruby on Rails as well as PHP, Java and React. My recommendation is; read the docs :)
ICU Messageformat is a must for pluralization / gender-specific texts and so on. Phraseapp supports icu messageformat by providing a neat user experiene to translators.
