Excellent team management software.
What do you like best about the product?
Asana makes task assignment easy. I can enter a full battery of tasks for myself and my employees with very little time spend each day. It is also extremely easy to see what current tasks are assigned to each employee and therefore manage their productivity.
What do you dislike about the product?
The mobile app has usability issues. It does not provide the same ability to assign and reorganize tasks that the desktop (web app) version does. The mobile app is really only useful for assigning simple tasks and checking off done ones. Since my employees and I work entirely on desktop computers, however, this does not hamper our use of Asana very much.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asana makes it easy to assign both high-level objectives and minute instructions. The use of subtasks has been a HUGE leap forward in achieving my company goals. Working with others is simple—work out the large actions that need to be taken, then break those down into further and further subtasks that can be assigned to daily actions. The ability to create repeating tasks for everyday activities is also a huge boon.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make it clear to all users that task assignment is for EVERYONE. Yes, I can create EVERY subtask that needs to be done for my company. But it is much more efficient to assign broad tasks, then let my employees create the sub-tasks to achieve it. I can then review their plan and add tasks as necessary. And yes, I let my employees assign ME tasks if there are things they need from me as their boss.

Asana vs Jira vs Trello
What do you like best about the product?
Because Asana is designed for raw efficiency - I love their keyboard shortcuts and macro implementations. It makes it intuitive and easy to create, read, update, and delete tasks. I have even seen co-workers use Asana in meetings to jot down notes.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am aware that JIRA is geared towards software development where Asana is meant for a much broader audience - but as a developer - it would be nice if Asana could adopt a customization for custom data models similar the way JIRA does. Some of my freelance projects that have scaled quickly I have had to switch to JIRA.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For enterprise applications and in the corporate world I have used Trello and JIRA - but for my own personal free lance projects I tend to use Asana. Since inception, JIRA was designed for software teams, and in its marketing you can see that it mainly targets software builders, developers, or project managers working who are running software development cycles. In contrast, Trello has a much broader target audience, as it basically offers any kind of project tracking. The reason I choose Asana over Trello is that Asana is more focused on immediate efficiency and out of the box capability.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go for the free trial and test it out! It doesn't even require credit card input (last I checked).
Lots of features but I don't feel more organized
What do you like best about the product?
Asana makes it possible to collaborate with others -- to have shared to-do lists and events with all my co-workers so that we can coordinate within our team and across various teams in order to make projects happen. I like the way it's possible to create different projects and dashboards and to assign tasks to specific individuals.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's difficult to add another site/login to my daily work process -- I find that I still jot things down on post-its or use my calendar application to keep track of things I need to do, instead of putting them in Asana. It's also difficult to track where things are in a process or to schedule the order in which things need to happen. Also, it's possible to assign things to someone, but they don't necessarily have to acknowledge/accept that the tasks were assigned.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're solving the problem of multiple people working on the same issue without coordinating. Benefits include less duplication of work responsibilities and fewer conversations about "has anyone thought of x" or "has y been addressed." It's easy to find invoices, documents, and materials related to a particular project.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend you evaluate what existing productivity tools you're using, and determine whether it's better to invest more in those (or upgrade to more elaborate versions of them), or to add another tool instead -- in which case you may want to divest from some of your current business practices.
After a short learning period you'll wonder how you lived without it
What do you like best about the product?
Asana allows you to organise your thoughts, ideas and projects in the form of lists or 'boards' with 'sticky notes'. I love the board layout because I can break down big projects into smaller and smaller tasks as I work on each section. When an idea occurs to me I can easily add it, just like I might grab a sticky note and scribble a memo on it.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm not entirely sure how team sharing works and what people I have shared tasks with can see. I wish there was a 'View as your team sees it" function like LinkedIn or Facebook has. Maybe it's there but I can't find it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm so much more organised and I look more organised for my team. Previously project management was very much in my head or scribbled on notes. I am saving time by having everything in one place.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take the time to watch the video tutorials. Ask others in your industry how they use it.
Best Tool for Managing Your Workload
What do you like best about the product?
Being able to plan my projects, repeat tasks, organize my client work, plan my weekly schedule, add clients + other freelancers and see everything I need to complete with one glance. I also like the new boards (similar to Trello) feature I use it to brainstorm blog post topics, set up my editorial calendar, plan my newsletter, and create my social media content calendar.
What do you dislike about the product?
I like the features included with the yearly price (the editorial calendar template, specifically), but it is a little high for one person or solopreneur to use for just her. I wish I could see repeated tasks listed instead of showing up after completion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It keeps all my projects organized, client work and I even have calendars just for my blog posts and social media content. I don't have to use other tools and everything is in one place. I love that I can double check tasks or my schedule from my smartphone.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try you will love it!
Great project management software for individuals and teams alike!
What do you like best about the product?
Asana is especially fantastic for keeping all of my multiple projects and businesses organized and in line. My favorite thing about Asana is that I can add my various partners and team members to specific projects or lists and assign tasks to people other than myself. It's great for organizing teamwork and making sure everyone is on track in my team.
What do you dislike about the product?
There really isn't much that I don't like about Asana, honestly. I sometimes wish that the calendar was a bit more interactive/easy to navigate, but I can't complain about anything.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since I run multiple businesses and constantly have multiple projects within each business going on, it's imperative that I have things organized and written down, otherwise things easily get forgotten. With Asana, not only do I have all of my projects nicely organized and all of my tasks written out so that I can see them, but I can assign them to various team members with due dates and any important file uploads or passwords/details and know that everything will get done.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need to get more organized in your business or have team members that you need to keep on track with tasks and deadlines, I highly recommend using Asana to take care of your business organization needs! You can upload documents and files which is phenomenal in helping to keep everything that you need for your business tasks all in one place!
Best task management tool out there
What do you like best about the product?
Clean user interface; view a simple linear list of all your tasks and sort by importance, due date, or customize it to whatever you want.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really - it's a great tool all around and I can't think of anything I dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping track of all the tasks I have to complete. Asana helps segment these tasks by project so it's easy to manage everything.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You should definitely at least TRY the free version. I think Asana's super clean UI and user friendliness separates them from the pack. My marketing team would not be able to function without Asana!
Keeping the ever growing task-list organized
What do you like best about the product?
My husband and I can see every task we've recorded n addition to assigning those tasks to a certain person at a particular time. Takes the stress off us to remember everything.
What do you dislike about the product?
Well, nothing really. The dislike is more with myself for forgetting to do what Asana tells me to do! :)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Time and task management, communication between partners
Asana, many uses...
What do you like best about the product?
I like the fact that you can delegate and track projects very efficiently I also like the fact that you can really get to know your team through the platform due to real names/photos in each person's profile. I also like the fact that you can get really granular with the details of tasks and projects if you choose to
What do you dislike about the product?
No CRM features, only for internal task assignment and management, if you are assigning tasks to team members that will be interacting with clients there isn't much extension there.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking from start to finish the production of websites and other SEO projects for our clients.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana has quickly grown to be one of the leaders in task and project management. I can't tell you that it is better than another program you might be considering I can only tell you that we have never felt that there could be something to better suit our needs that would lead us to even consider searching for an alternative.
Easy, intuitive and good for small teams
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to have oversight of both my tasks and those of my team members is very important. It's easy to set deadlines and stay on track. It has also seemed to have adopted certain elements from trello and other productivity tools which have helped create a more complete product.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are better tools for more graphic-intensive projects. All users on the same domain are automatically included in the same account. This is ok for smaller teams, but for larger more disparate teams this seems like it could create some organization issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a distributed team so it is important that the entire team is able to keep track of what the others are working on. It promotes accountability and allows us to adapt as needed.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We did trials of a few different options, and our trial with Asana helped cement our decision. If your team is small enough it can stay free and if you're looking for a way to manage your projects, no reason not to try it.
