Robust, Lightweight, and Dev-Friendly Integration Platform

  • July 29, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
WSO2 Micro Integrator stands out for its lightweight footprint and cloud-native architecture, making it perfect for microservices and containerized environments. The built-in support for a wide range of integration protocols (HTTP, SOAP, JMS, etc.) and connectors (including Salesforce, SAP, etc.) makes it highly versatile. I especially appreciate its native support for CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and observability (Prometheus, OpenTracing). The tooling with WSO2 Integration Studio makes it easy to design, deploy, and debug integrations visually, which accelerates developer productivity.
What do you dislike about the product?
The initial learning curve can be steep, especially for developers not familiar with the Synapse configuration language or the WSO2-specific deployment model. Although the documentation is comprehensive, some use cases lack detailed examples or community Q&A. Also, debugging complex mediation sequences can be challenging without deep knowledge of the runtime and logs. Finally, while the product is open-source, enterprise support and additional features are locked behind a subscription, which could be a limitation for small teams.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
WSO2 Micro Integrator helps us solve several critical integration challenges. It enables seamless communication between legacy systems, modern SaaS platforms, and microservices across our hybrid cloud architecture. By supporting multiple protocols (REST, SOAP, JMS, etc.), it simplifies the integration of heterogeneous systems without needing custom code for each interface.

After 9 years of usage, time to review

  • July 17, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
After 9 years of using integration technologies, such as ESB 5.0.0, EI 7.1.0, MI 4.1.0, MI 4.5.0 (as well as using Ballerina, which is not the subject of this review), I can therefore provide a fairly informed opinion.

WSO2 integration products are robust, powerful products that allow you to integrate virtually anything you want. By learning the syntax and with good logic, you can integrate everything.

Performing protocol transformations REST > SOAP > REST is child's play, and data mapping with internal components is also facilitated.

There have been many improvements in the product, particularly in the IDE part which was lacking until now. Integrator Studio was slow and didn't load Maven dependencies and modules, but this has been resolved since the arrival of plugins for Visual Studio Code.

We have operated on several approaches: the service bus approach with a good number of deployed integrations, ETL as well. Now we are using the micro integration approach, which facilitates the build and run of our applications.

I highly recommend this product, provided you are familiar with XML!
What do you dislike about the product?
I have few criticisms, except for weak documentation on complex cases.

Also regarding version upgrades where documentation may be lacking.

Debugging is also complex to implement.

There is also no documentation on the DevOps part for deployments from CI/CD.
(Given that WSO2 integration projects behave like Java Maven projects, CI/CD is rather simple)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Develop and integrate API.
Develop and ingest Data as an ETL.

Excellent Enterprise Middleware Solution

  • November 01, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Its extensible interface to develop new connecters which will allow us to keep the existing codebase intact. Its XML type Request-Response definition for REST interface can allow rapid development of API's for people without much coding knowledge. There is also the factor of GUI based Metrics visualization for the API usage which provides better observability.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't clear documentation on developing new Enterprise integrator. I had to stuggle a little and rely on community to develop the connector.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the middleware issues like not have to maintain an eloborate codebase to catch with newer integrations

Scalable integrations with WSO2

  • April 26, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is open-source, and we could try any integrations before production deployments. If we purchase the support, we can guarantee the success of the integration.
What do you dislike about the product?
The cost was the primary concern of my integrations. It is feature-rich to give any solution you need. The microservices approach would result in license cost reduction as a side effect.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is an IoT solution for the healthcare domain; We achieved multiprotocol handling with IoT devices
