Offers no-code possibilities but requires better security features

  • June 03, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I have built more than 14 projects for my clients using WordPress, which include various websites.

I also have two personal websites that I am trying to build up but haven't found time to complete.

I have built WooCommerce projects, restaurant websites, dental websites, hospital websites, staff project websites, personal portfolios, and tour company websites.

I have built quite a few websites.

What is most valuable?

The best feature of WordPress is that it provides no-code solutions, enabling us to make anything when we use Elementor.

You can build anything, and the features are all updated without needing any code.

This is the major and key feature of WordPress.

The benefits of using WordPress are extensive. Some websites I have seen have full features similar to Fiber websites and service-based websites.

You can build a school management system or learning management system in WordPress with the help of plugins, and it is very user-friendly and open-source.

WordPress scales up effectively, allowing you to expand your website.

As mentioned earlier, you can build a learning management system.

The most popular websites respected for SEO are hundreds out of 90 from the WordPress platform, demonstrating its scalability.

What needs improvement?

The area that could be improved in WordPress is the security feature.

The security features need to ensure they don't rely too much on external plugins for security.

WordPress needs to have its own built-in security similar to Webflow or Shopify.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with WordPress for 3 years, and for GoHighLevel, I have experience of 6 to 7 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I experience issues with stability, but it depends upon the hosting providers.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't contacted the WordPress customer support team personally, but I have been connected with the hosting providers' support team, and they have really helped.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Wix, Webflow, and Shopify, and I have worked on Squarespace as well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup depends upon hosting.

Some hosting providers offer a very simple and easy process where you just click through, but some hosting providers such as ServerStream make it complicated since you have to upload WordPress files to your server.

It's a very complicated process.

What other advice do I have?

Nowadays you can use WordPress with just basic knowledge and build a complete website.

They can fix issues really fast.

For beginners who are learning web development, they should definitely look for WordPress.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate WordPress a 7.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

What is our primary use case?

My typical use case for this tool is to build websites for our clients.

What is most valuable?

It is easy to organize a whole project and a multi-site project within one instance, and it is easy for programmers to implement. I would also say I appreciate the way it is organized for the implementer.

What needs improvement?

WordPress is less performant than FirstSpirit solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used WordPress for about 3 to 5 years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

The deployment of WordPress took a few days.We did not use any support for WordPress.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability of WordPress eight to nine.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability of WordPress a five.

How are customer service and support?

I do not have experience contacting their technical support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Typo3 before WordPress.I switched from Typo3 to WordPress because Typo3 was very difficult to maintain the code.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of WordPress is easy. When it is set up properly, WordPress is intuitive for beginners.

What about the implementation team?

I completed the deployment of WordPress myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

WordPress is good with search engine optimization if you use the plugins.I use WordPress because it is an inexpensive solution for small projects.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have experience with WordPress and Typo3, and they are both much less performant than FirstSpirit.

What other advice do I have?

Based on my experience, I would recommend WordPress to other people.I would recommend WordPress because it is easy to use and more flexible than a SaaS website such as Wix.I have 10 plus years of experience with WordPress, but we do not implement it. I am an end user and have no relationship with WordPress.I rate WordPress overall a seven.

An easy-to-use and adaptable tool that needs to be simplified a bit

  • October 12, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use WordPress to write content in Spanish and English for a magazine and some B2B websites.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that it is quite easy to use. The tool can also be personalized and tweaked, making it an easily adaptable tool for what I need. Considering how it works, the developers in my company can create it in a way that makes it a very simple tool that is easy and intuitive to use. You can save text and add images while remaining easy for a non-expert user.

What needs improvement?

Considering the fact that I have used a lot of tools, WordPress is a good product. Right now, I can't think of any area in WordPress where improvements are required.

In the future, WordPress can consider making a simple website that is easy for its users to use. If you want more advanced things or a more complex website, it requires more work, for which WordPress should help users simplify the process of making a more complex website that is not only text and images.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using WordPress for six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In my experience, there haven't been any stability issues in WordPress.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In my company, between 20 to 50 people use WordPress.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with other website builders, like Squarespace.

How was the initial setup?

I wasn't involved in the setup phase of WordPress since I had just received an explanation on how to use it from someone in the technical team of my company. Based on my first experience with WordPress, it was a bit intimidating the first time I saw it, as it does seem like a lot. It became easy to use once I was onboarded and everything was explained to me by my company's technical team. A user may feel intimidated the first time he or she sees it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

As per my understanding, WordPress is an open-source product, owing to which there are no requirements to make any payments towards its licensing costs.

What other advice do I have?

My company has an IT team to take care of the maintenance part of WordPress.

I think the main advantages of WordPress can be brought out if you have a team of developers since it can be made really flexible to fit your needs. You can change a lot in WordPress, especially its UI and certain functionalities. WordPress is quite an adaptable tool that you can personalize enough to fit your needs. WordPress has an advantage over other tools since it is a very well-known product that a lot of IT teams would know how to work on. Once you are onboarded, WordPress is quite easy to use.

I would tell those planning to use the solution to have a clear image in their heads of what they want from the tool to make it easier to develop that vision. I would suggest those planning to use WordPress do not get intimidated when using it initially. If you don't work with too many complex technologies, you may feel a bit intimidated by certain software products. A person might see WordPress and feel overwhelmed, but it's easy and user-friendly.

My experience with the tool may be different since my company has an IT team to look after the product. If just one user decides to make their own website using WordPress, then the experience of such a user might be better or worse than my experience with the product.

I rate the overall product a seven out of ten.

Versatile and can be employed to create websites for a wide range of purposes

  • October 02, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use WordPress for various purposes, depending on my clients' needs. Some clients request hospital websites, while others opt for e-commerce shops using Shopify or WordPress. Additionally, clients approach me for school or office websites. In essence, WordPress is versatile and can be employed to create websites for a wide range of purposes, making it suitable for almost any project my clients bring to me.

What is most valuable?

The best feature of WordPress is its flexibility. I can utilize free plugins and builders, easily access my website's backend with admin access, and work with SQL databases as a base. While Shopify may have similar features, my experience with WordPress makes it easier for me to have complete control over everything in the website-building process.

What needs improvement?

WordPress could use improvement in terms of optimization, especially for large websites with extensive databases and many images. When clients want to build projects like Amazon on WordPress, it tends to slow down and becomes challenging to manage when they have thousands of products. WordPress needs to become more flexible and efficient to better handle such significant projects and provide a smoother experience for users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using WordPress for seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of WordPress can vary depending on the hosting provider used. For instance, with Bluehost, it often experiences frequent breakdowns and scheduled maintenance, leading to interruptions. On the other hand, hosting services like Cloudways and Namecheap offer better stability and are preferred options. GoDaddy is good as well but not my first choice.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In my company, the majority of our clients use WordPress, which accounts for more than 80% of the projects. This translates to over 100 people, as I have built around 50 websites on WordPress so far, with only about 10% opting for Shopify.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't contacted the WordPress support team directly. Instead, I usually interact with the customer service of my server host when I need assistance, as WordPress is a program that can be set up without requiring direct support. For certain issues, I might also reach out to domain support for help when necessary.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost of a project using WordPress varies widely and depends on the specific requirements. It can range from as low as $500 to as high as $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity and scope of the project.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for new users is to first define their project requirements. Understand the type of website you need, whether it is e-commerce or informational. Consider factors like the number of products you plan to feature and any specific design or functionality preferences. Be prepared to answer questions from professionals to help them recommend the most suitable platform, whether it is WordPress or something else, for your specific project needs. Overall, I would rate WordPress as a nine out of ten.

You can add various plugins and use the built-in configurations or implement custom solutions

  • September 25, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

WordPress is a blogging platform used for various purposes. It maintains website content. Three clients use WordPress because of the VPN environment. These clients have major websites and also engage in webcasting. My clients belong to different industries, including travel and software, ranging from small businesses to independent entities. WordPress can help to build websites and works well with other web browsers. It can also be used to create microsites.

What is most valuable?

WordPress offers great flexibility. You can add various plugins and use the built-in configurations or implement custom solutions. It provides flexibility in the design and functionality of websites. I use WordPress for all my clients, and based on my experience, they consistently enhance their WordPress sites with a wide range of features.

What needs improvement?

One area of improvement is hosting. It should have its file manager regardless of where you host your website. You'll need access to all the backend files. You can usually find this in the hosting console.

For instance, if you want to change your website's backend, you might use a service like Cloudflare or GoDaddy. You'll need to log into their websites and make the necessary adjustments, like managing files and other resources. It's important to remember that if you're hosting a live website and making changes, there's a risk involved. Even minor errors like a single dot or comma in your code can significantly impact your website's functions. These errors can lead to issues with CSP and the site's functionality. This is especially crucial when dealing with live websites and monitoring ongoing business operations. If you need to test specific functionalities, consider doing so in a testing version of your website before making changes on the live site.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using WordPress since 2018. We are using the latest version of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

When a company installs WordPress, they'll notice an extensive range of features. WordPress is known for its stability and versatility. It's a reliable software platform that offers security features as well.

Some hosting options for WordPress may require payment, but self-financed hosting can also be a viable choice to maintain stability.

Based on my experience, one critical factor is hosting. If your hosting server cannot handle a sudden surge of users, it can lead to downtime for your website. I've encountered a situation where our WordPress website was hosted on AWS and experienced downtime due to a sudden increase in users.

Additionally, the UI of a website is vital. If it's not responsive or well-designed, it can negatively impact user experience, regardless of the hosting server's capabilities. So, while hosting is crucial, it's just one aspect, and other factors like UI and functionality also matter for a successful WordPress site.

I rate the solution’s stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Many clients use WordPress for managing microsites because of the ease of administration. WordPress is used for microsites because of the plugin ecosystem.

I rate the solution’s scalability a seven-point five out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

We experienced an issue because our team relies on support for our WordPress site. It took us three hours to resolve, and during that time, the website was down. To address the problem, we increased the server load and explored alternative solutions. The issue was that the operating system had trouble communicating with the server on the backend. It can impact and result in notifications or, in some cases, server incapacity.

Since our server is hosted in the cloud, similar to how Google occasionally faces downtime with its cloud services, it can lead to a slowdown. In these instances, it's crucial to have a system that notifies users visiting the site, ideally through a user-friendly UI, to ensure they are aware of the situation.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of WordPress is easy. I haven’t dealt with database connections. Everything is functioning correctly. It has a user-friendly interface with options for adding domain names.

What other advice do I have?

While making code changes, an additional function caused an error when loading the database. One challenge with our virtual team setup is that when a critical issue arises, we might not have dedicated infrastructure support. We can't rely on immediate assistance, especially if the system crashes unexpectedly. In such situations, the solution is straightforward. I could log into the server, modify the necessary file, and then send it. The coding errors could sometimes prevent even the login process from working correctly.

Many other CMS platforms are out there, such as Peer, Citrix, and Shopify. These CMS platforms offer a user-friendly UI. If you’re seeking greater flexibility and the ability to work with custom code templates, then WordPress is the preferred choice. Other CMS options might offer a more visually appealing interface, but WordPress excels in handling various coding languages and customization, making it a popular choice for many.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

A versatile platform for web development that has helped me cater to a diverse range of clients

  • September 22, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I work with WordPress as a developer and build a wide range of websites for my clients. Some of them are beauty clinics, online stores, portfolio sites, and company profiles. Recently, there was an agriculture website where they provide services and sell many agricultural products. We use WordPress and WooCommerce for that.

How has it helped my organization?

We use WordPress to showcase our services, where we offer WordPress website design and development, WordPress plugin development and maintenance. Basically, it's the core of my organization. It helps me deliver the website with high efficiency and speed; it offers great scalability & customization.

WordPress's user-friendly content management system makes it simple for our clients to update and manage their websites independently, reducing their reliance on us for routine tasks and updates.

It has great community support and WordPress's regular updates and a wide array of security plugins help us maintain the integrity and security of our clients' websites.

What is most valuable?

I appreciate the flexibility of WordPress, particularly its filter and action hooks, which allow for the development of additional features. We can build our own plugins into this. We can be creative while following our clients' requirements. For example, I recently built a custom plugin where the client wanted extra functionalities about membership, special profile pages, and a subscription system. And WordPress has helped a lot, thanks to its flexibility. I could use current plugins on the market and then modify them with my own plugin and collaborate with other existing plugins. So, WordPress has reduced a lot of work for me as a developer. With WordPress, I can achieve the functionality that I want. I don't have to do everything from scratch because a few solutions exist in the market, and I can enhance that.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see a new UI. It's pretty boring to see the same interface for so many years. Since 2003 there hasn't been much difference in the backend panel of the administrator area. It needs to be updated visually in the admin area.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for over a decade. But for the past eight years, I've used it more intensely, focusing more on development.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

WordPress is stable. The most important thing to do is to just keep updating the plugins. Most of my clients, for whom I also do maintenance, have faced no problems with their websites. However, I sometimes have clients who face problems and come to me because they are too late to update the plugins.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

WordPress offers impressive scalability, making it possible to begin with a basic website and continually expand its capabilities.

In the context of client projects, the scalability of WordPress becomes particularly evident. For instance, if I create an e-commerce website for a client, the user base can easily surpass 100 users, especially when the client is actively selling products and consistently adding new customers to their site. In my portfolio, I manage more than 30 clients, each with unique websites.

If the website is just to showcase products and services, then the user probably only has three or five working on that website as an administrator or editor where they write a blog. But when the website is an e-commerce solution, users will grow as much as possible because they are selling products. And as they are selling products, new users are always signing in as customers and buying their products. That number could grow, even from zero to 500, and even more.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

A long time ago, I used Joomla, which is also a CMS. Since I knew WordPress, I started to switch from Joomla to WordPress.

I combined WordPress with the WooCommerce plugin for e-commerce solutions since that plugin is very popular for e-commerce. I've used PrestaShop in the past. It was really good as an e-commerce solution. However, in terms of flexibility, PrestaShop is not that flexible because it's mostly built for e-commerce. Because of that, I focused more on WordPress because the level of scalability is higher for WordPress. You could start with a basic website or blog, add in membership, and start selling products. The business grows and changes, and you still can use the same platform, WordPress.

I recently had a client that switched from Wix to WordPress.

How was the initial setup?

I usually built the website from scratch and followed the design that was provided by the client or by our designer, then enhanced them with additional features. I added extra code there to tailor the website's functionality to the specific needs of the client.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is very reasonable because WordPress is an open-source platform. Likewise, there are so many free plugins, so it's already a good starting point for me and my clients. But if we need extra solutions to have a good layout, for example, we can either do custom code or use Elementor to style the website. Elementor is not expensive. It's about $50 per year. In general, it's a pretty cheap solution to build a website using WordPress.

What other advice do I have?

Because WordPress is so popular, most of the time, my clients already have previous knowledge about using it, such as how to write a new blog. Suppose they want to make some changes to their page, such as how to put a new image or video media. In that case, they already know about it because it's a big market, and there is a strong possibility they've had previous experience using WordPress. In the back end, WordPress is user-friendly because it's pretty familiar. If you have ever used a WordPress website and then checked another WordPress website in the back end, most of the time it has a similar interface. Moreover, many plugins add new features and suit websites with different functionalities. There has been a recent development for WordPress where they are going with a block system in Gutenberg, and that could be the future, so in general, I think it will be better and more modern.

I have never asked for any technical support because, most of the time, if I really need technical support, I can simply Google it, and some other developers or users would have already answered the question I have.

My advice to general users is to just use it. WordPress is pretty easy, and there are several free YouTube tutorials on how to use it. And if they have made a new website in WordPress, they can ask developers to give them a short tutorial on how to use it. In general, they can always go back to the Internet and find information on how to use it. Many users can install new plugins if needed because it's so easy. But when it comes to more specific functionalities, a general user needs to go back to the developer. I rate WordPress a ten out of ten.

Very customizable, and forms the base for most websites on the Internet

  • September 15, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use WordPress to do websites for big companies. You can use WordPress for anything web-related. It's a framework.

What is most valuable?

WordPress helps me in two ways. In the first place, WordPress is the most used framework for CMS. 45% of the websites on the Internet use WordPress. Secondly, it is easy to edit content using WordPress. The final user can edit homepages, make blogs, or do something different. But the most valuable thing is that it is customizable. It has a huge community of developers for its free software. It uses the GPL license, so you can edit the code. You can share what you've done and participate for free. Around 10,000 developers are using WordPress, so its code is solid.

What needs improvement?

I work in the community, and I'm part of a team making the core of WordPress. We are responsible for creating how WordPress will change in the next version. The main point is concurrency. For example, we have Squarespace, Wix, and a lot of other frameworks with the same features and functionalities. All those frameworks are going to a completely no-code experience. Anyone can then have a website. You're just dragging, dropping, and writing texts very easily. It's like using Facebook. WordPress comes from a node way. There was a time when the webmaster needed to code in HTML, PHP, or some language to have a website. It has changed over time, but we still have some old things inside the backend of WordPress. We are currently removing all those old things. Day by day, WordPress will be easier to use and more user-friendly. WordPress needs to improve its usability. That way, it will be easier to create websites, e-commerce, CRM, platforms for education, or anything else.

It would be good if WordPress improved its AI. For example, if you have a blog, the blog will be auto-writing. I'm working on this, and we have some solutions. Another feature should be the identification of users. It's related to AI. For example, if you go to a website like Facebook or another social network, it's possible to learn everything about you if you go to that place. WordPress has something like that, but it's not so deep. I am personally working on that feature. Anyone coming to a WordPress website will be identified. It's tricky because we have a kind of privacy to follow, so we need to balance both things.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used WordPress since 2005.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate WordPress' stability a nine out of ten since the free version is not so stable. But if the commercial version is stable, I rate it a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate WordPress' scalability a ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

Can I rate it 20?

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

How difficult it is to deploy depends on how you choose. If you go to WordPress dot com, the company, the commercial site, the initial setup is easy. You just have to fill in a few fields. If you use the WordPress dot org, it is the free version. You need to have some knowledge of servers, for example, Linux. It's complex. The paid platform is very simple. You need more knowledge if you use the community, the free software.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

WordPress is free. WordPress can be pricey, ranging from $0 to thousands per month. But it depends on the version you are using.

What other advice do I have?

WordPress is different from other platforms because it is highly customizable. My advice is to follow the community. I rate WordPress a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud
