Manages network threats and supports application control with ease

  • April 28, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The use cases for F5 Silverline Managed Services include Application Firewall and Web Application Firewall. For example, it helps me manage a few public IPs which are malicious and pose a threat to the network. These can be blocked or allowed based on requirements. Additionally, it allows me to block or allow specific applications for particular subnet ranges. I am an administrator managing the licensed software and providing support to clients.

What is most valuable?

The best advantage of F5 Silverline Managed Services is that it is easy to use. The admin guide they provide is easy to understand and allows for implementation within a few days. The traffic manager and the monitoring tool are valuable as well. The monitoring tab displays GET and POST requests in a readable format, making it accessible even to non-tech-savvy individuals. It offers effective reports and monitoring capabilities.

What needs improvement?

Automating processes could enhance F5 Silverline Managed Services. For example, introducing preemptive support prompts would reduce the manual effort required for creating policies or blocking specific IPs. Implementing this feature would streamline the process and lessen the need for manual steps.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using F5 solutions for over five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Sometimes I encounter glitches when a bug appears, but F5's support team is quick to provide solutions. They offer regular updates, and overall, I would rate the stability of the solution as nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

F5 Silverline Managed Services is scalable enough without observed limitations. Different licenses are available based on needs, offering scalability.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate customer support from F5 as nine out of ten. Their support team is responsive, and they deliver timely updates, addressing any glitches promptly.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The installation of F5 Silverline Managed Services is straightforward. However, the configuration part can be complex and requires a proper guide.

What about the implementation team?

Installation can be handled by one person, but configuration typically requires a team of three or four people to ensure everything is aligned properly.

What was our ROI?

I am not directly involved in the investment part, so I cannot estimate the ROI in percentage.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is quite reasonably priced, with costs being lower in comparison to competitors. On a scale where ten is very expensive, I would rate the pricing as three. It offers cost savings and is very effective.

What other advice do I have?

My overall experience with F5 Silverline Managed Services is positive. I would rate it nine out of ten. While I have not seen any AI integrations yet, I am hopeful that they are working towards AI features.

Enables centralized management and effective security against top attacks

  • February 17, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use F5 Silverline Managed Services for application delivery and security. I have extensive experience with products like LTM (application delivery controller), GTM (global traffic load balancing), ASM, and APM. These products enable me to distribute back-end server traffic, customize and control HTTP headers, and provide security measures like health checks and DNS security.

What is most valuable?

F5 Silverline offers load balancing, flexibility, and reliability. It allows for centralized management of certificates, protecting applications from top ten attacks like SQL injection and cross-site scripting. It is effective at mitigating DDoS attacks where a profile can be created and applied to virtual servers.

What needs improvement?

Improvements could include the creation of highly optimized profiles, optimization deployments, and compression profiles for better performance.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using F5 solutions for 15 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is fully scalable, and I would give it a rating of ten on a scale of one to ten for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

Sometimes tech support can be slow. They take more time assigning engineers to complex issues, however, they resolve the issues by joining me to fix them.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I also work with Fortinet solutions.

How was the initial setup?

The setup of F5 Silverline Managed Services is straightforward and easy. One person is enough for installation, however, for high availability, deploying two devices as active-standby or active-active is better.

What was our ROI?

Using F5 results in time and cost savings, estimating a return on investment of 100%.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive, however, the quality and performance are good.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I work with Fortinet solutions, specifically FortiGate, FortiAnalyzer, and FortiManager.

What other advice do I have?

For comparison, I prefer F5 over Fortinet because of its simplicity in operation and administration. I have been working with F5 for about ten years, and its support is professional.

Overall, I would rate F5 Silverline Managed Services at nine out of ten.

A reasonably priced product with a good UI, but the navigation is difficult, and the support team takes a long time to respond

  • June 27, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for protection from Layer 3, Layer 4, and Layer 7 DDoS attacks and for web application firewalls.

What is most valuable?

The product’s UI is easy to understand.

What needs improvement?

Since we use the solution’s cloud, the product has more control over the back end. The customer will not have control. It is part of the product’s feature. When we get more complex requirements or if we want to write more complex tools, the support team will have the visibility to write them because they have control.

The navigation is difficult to use. The navigation should be improved. Other products are quite straightforward. If I try to implement a new application and do an onboarding, it is not very easy. We must go to one feature, inside which there will be more features. It should be simplified, and a menu should be provided.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for more than two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. More than 100 people use the solution in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

Support is not good. The team takes a long time to respond.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy. The solution has good documentation for the initial setup. F5 also provided us with support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product’s pricing is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

As a customer, if we need more control, then we should choose F5 ASM. We use multiple applications and products. We use the tool for corporate applications because it fulfils our requirements. I will recommend the solution. If it fulfils your requirement, you can definitely go ahead and use it. Overall, I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
