An user-friendly solution that helps with data backup and replication

  • March 29, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is most valuable?

The tool is good for VMware environments. However, it's not very effective for physical servers, payment servers, and libraries.

The solution is very good for backup and replication.

You can use one license for backup without needing additional capacity licenses for backups or updates. It also doesn't require additional licenses to back up to a Git library.

The tool is easy to use and user-friendly. Its data recovery options are good. Veeam Data Platform supports data encryption.

What needs improvement?

Veeam Data Platform needs to improve data backup for Oracle admin. It needs to improve its stability.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the product for 5 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the product's stability a seven out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

The product is easy to deploy. It took around 20-30 minutes to complete.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Customers require a perpetual license for the product. However, along with the license, they must also subscribe to the support service for one year or three years under a separate contract.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the overall solution an eight out of ten. I have no complaints about its data availability.

Intuitive and used to back up virtual machines and do site backup

  • March 28, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the Veeam Data Platform to back up virtual machines and do site backup.

What is most valuable?

The solution's recovery process is very smooth.

What needs improvement?

The solution's price could be cheaper. It would be nice if the solution scanned for malware in the backups. A lot of Veeam's vendors are moving to Site Recovery, not just the traditional backup and restore. If that were an area they'd be moving into, then that would be very good.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Data Platform for over five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution a nine out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam Data Platform is a scalable solution. Less than 200 users use the solution in our organization. It's direct on our virtual service, so our users don't have interaction with it.

I rate the solution an eight out of ten for scalability.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've previously worked with different solutions like Veritas Backup and Barracuda Backup. Veeam Data Platform is by far the best solution at the moment.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of the solution was straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We worked closely with a third-party consultant to deploy the solution. They knew the product inside out, which made it more efficient. The solution's installation was straightforward and took just a few hours.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Since our Veeam license is perpetual, we only pay for annual maintenance.

What other advice do I have?

My experience with data recovery using the Veeam Data Platform has been very good, smooth, and efficient. The solution is very intuitive and easy to use. It's straightforward, and the layout is nice.

Veeam Data Platform gives us peace of mind and assurance that we have a product backing up our data and that we can retrieve it reliably. One of the biggest problems with other backups is that sometimes, retrieving the data is not as easy as it should be. So, we get peace of mind with the Veeam Data Platform. If in doubt, I recommend users do a trial with the Veeam Data Platform. Once they've tested and seen how easy and reliable it is, they can choose to use the solution.

We've not had to rely on the Veeam Data Platform for disaster. If we were to have a disaster, the solution would give us assurance. The solution is invaluable at the moment.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Affordable, fast, trustworthy, and enables easy reporting, managing, and troubleshooting

  • March 27, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for daily, monthly, and yearly backups. We use it for data protection, backup, and replication.

How has it helped my organization?

It is a trustworthy tool for backups. We get daily reports. We know how many backups are running, how many have failed, and the reason for the disk and network failures. We can easily troubleshoot whenever the backup fails. Once, the database server crashed, and we had to rebuild the server. We were able to restore it from scratch. We recovered the data until six hours before the crash. We could restore every table, database, and transaction log properly.

What is most valuable?

We can take snapshots easily. The tool is fast and trustworthy. It is easy to report, manage, and troubleshoot. We can migrate the tool easily from one host to another host. We can create policies and set the retention period. We can easily change it anytime. We can easily expand the storage.

What needs improvement?

Granular-level backup is difficult. Restoring one email, file, folder, or database table is very hard. The vendor must work on visualization.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s scalability an eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The support is not as good as we expect. Sometimes, we need to keep calling support. The line is busy. The support team does not resolve the problems on time. We face some delays.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

We can easily install and uninstall the product. It is easy to deploy. I rate the ease of setup a nine out of ten. We need two days for deployment. It is easy to maintain the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is not that expensive. I rate the pricing a seven out of ten. It is economical.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Dell IDPA is a fantastic tool. We also use Dell IDPA. Every backup tool has unique features. Dell IDPA has a high throughput ratio. Veeam is very easy to manage. Other solutions have cloud features, but Veeam does not provide many such features. Barracuda is famous nowadays.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the product to others. Almost every company uses Veeam. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Ensures backup management features while maintaining stability, quick deployment, excellent technical support and compatibility with various virtual machine environments

  • March 14, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use it to backup our VMs.

How has it helped my organization?

It assists in enhancing data protection and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery scenarios where backups are replicated to alternative locations for additional redundancy. Additionally, these tools enable the scheduling of backups at specified intervals, ensuring that backup copies are retained for a defined period to facilitate recovery when necessary.

Veeam ONE helps in supporting risk management initiatives.

What is most valuable?

Backup management features are crucial for ensuring the reliability and automation of backup processes. These features enable automatic scheduling of backups, reducing the likelihood of human error associated with manual backup procedures. Additionally, they offer the capability to protect data consistently and reliably, mitigating the risk of data loss due to oversight or human error.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with it for several years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is excellent; there have been no instances of technical issues or downtime experienced.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The majority of our clients are enterprises.

How are customer service and support?

The quality of technical support is satisfactory. I would rate it nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We utilize various tools from different brands such as NEC, HP, and VMware. However, Veeam stands out as a superior option due to its ability to seamlessly integrate and manage multiple VM environments.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup and implementation process is relatively straightforward. However, challenges may arise, particularly concerning data management, especially when dealing with large volumes of data. The complexity tends to increase as the amount of data grows.

What about the implementation team?

Deployment can be completed swiftly, typically within a month. However, the duration of tasks such as replication increases proportionally with the size of the data being handled.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is reasonable and falls within the average range.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend it, although we've only utilized the backup feature. Overall, I would rate it eight out of ten.

Best backup solution for VMware over the last 10 years

  • March 12, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Veeam's instant recovery is an awesome feature if you ever have an issue with a VM; you can restore a backup and migrate it to production if something happens to the production server.
Agent backups are great also for targetted backups of specific folders at a higher frequesncy than full backups.
Live migration of VM if you don't have a full sphere license.
Pretty simple to use, and support will help you fix any issues that arrise with a job as far as errors go.
What do you dislike about the product?
now that my 10gig network seems to be working at full speed my issues are resolved. When I reached out to veeam, they would not give an exact answer as to why something was bottlenecked and left that to me to hire somebody to explain how the backup could be slow. Anyways, ended up being a storage array I retired and then my backup speeds spead up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have daily backups of all servers, with synthetic fulls and I also rotate backups to offline storage. I could also replicate the backups to a DR site if we had one.

Offers robust monitoring and reporting features and ensures businesses maintain high levels of data availability

  • March 12, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam ONE mostly for data backup and recovery for virtualized environments.

What is most valuable?

One valuable feature of Veeam ONE for backup management is its dashboard, which offers a comprehensive view of backups and other essential data.

What needs improvement?

In terms of improvement, I have found Veeam ONE to be lacking in some areas. The reports are basic and not customizable, making it challenging to get detailed insights. Additionally, there are limitations with the reports if your backup schedule runs overnight. I hope they release a better version soon.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for two and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the overall stability of Veeam as a seven. While it is reliable for general backups and snapshots, it faces challenges with scale-out and Oracle backups. The Azure scale-out feature also presents stability issues, with most of our tickets revolving around that area.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability of Veeam ONE as a five out of ten. While it can scale, it is heavily dependent on factors like bandwidth and data volume. Our organization, being data-heavy, faces challenges with scale-outs due to bandwidth limitations. Smaller organizations might find it easier to scale without such constraints.

We have around ten users currently using Veeam ONE in our organization, overseeing the protection of approximately 3,000 workloads.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate Veeam's support as a nine overall. Tier one support can be weak, but tier two is excellent. We often need to escalate to tier two for resolution. Occasionally, issues require R&D involvement, but overall, support is reliable.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We chose Veeam over Commvault because it is simpler to use and more cost-effective. Commvault's complexity and lack of readiness for cloud backups made it less appealing. Veeam offered comprehensive backup solutions for on-premises, Azure, and Office 365, with fewer hardware requirements compared to Commvault.

How was the initial setup?

Deploying Veeam ONE in our organization took around one to one and a half hours. It was straightforward, it was just a matter of connecting to the server and following a few steps.

We handle maintenance and troubleshooting for Veeam ONE in-house with a team of two to three people. If we can't resolve issues internally, we escalate to Veeam support. We used to have weekly catch-ups during critical issues but now have shifted to monthly since there are no critical issues currently. Overall, it is a straightforward product that doesn't require frequent maintenance once set up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Overall, we find Veeam ONE to be reasonably priced, especially with our long-term deals. Its capability to manage various aspects of our infrastructure, including on-premises and Azure, adds significant value. While we initially tried Azure native backup, we found Veeam to be more comprehensive and user-friendly. Although we currently use two backup solutions, we are considering consolidating everything under Veeam in the future.

What other advice do I have?

We don't use Veeam ONE for monitoring our virtual environment due to compatibility issues with other software like Pulse SolarWinds. We primarily use it for backup activities. I have tested it and found it promising, but haven't run it extensively due to operational concerns.

I use Veeam ONE for proactive issue resolution by relying on its reports. If something isn't healthy, the report alerts me. Then I investigated further, like when it flagged issues with our proxy server's pricing. I don't check it daily; I schedule reports and review them, giving me a basic idea of what is happening. If I see unexpected issues in the report, I know where to focus my attention. While I don't use it for daily monitoring, it is handy for reporting.

Veeam ONE's reporting capabilities provide a decent overview, but I need more granularity for our data protection strategies. While the reports are okay, they sometimes lack the detail my team and boss require. I'm currently exploring ways to meet our need for more detailed reporting, such as tracking data scaled out to Azure.

Veeam ONE's analytics have helped us with IT decision-making by identifying issues like poor storage and repository node problems. Its focused view on backup infrastructure narrowed our troubleshooting scope. For instance, it highlighted discrepancies in backup deletion, leading us to uncover a bug in our current version.

I would recommend Veeam ONE for small organizations, but for larger ones needing granular reporting, it might fall short. Veeam is continually improving its features and aiming to compete at an enterprise level, but it is still evolving. Overall, I would rate Veeam ONE as an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
