Has a straightforward migration process and good backup functionalities
How has it helped my organization?
What is most valuable?
Nearly all of Veeam's features are beneficial, particularly standard backup functionalities, application-specific backup capabilities, and the ability to create backups in Azure and our data center for disaster recovery purposes.
What needs improvement?
They could improve the product's response times for technical support and enhance support for newer hypervisors.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with Veeam Data Platform for about 11 years now
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Once users become familiar with Veeam's operation, scalability is straightforward. There's a learning curve, but it's manageable.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support services are good. However, the response time could be better.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
In addition to Veeam, we have migrated clients from competitors such as Dell Backup (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager), Spectrum Protect (TSM), and Arcserve to Veeam.
How was the initial setup?
The product migration is generally a straightforward process. We assist with the initial setup as part of our service offerings. Setup times vary based on the environment, but typically, we can complete the initial setup within a day. Additional time may be spent configuring backup policies, discussing recovery point objectives (RPOs), and versioning requirements.
What other advice do I have?
We recommend Veeam to a wide range of businesses, from small enterprises to large corporations. Veeam products are generally user-friendly, although navigating through logs may occasionally be necessary, it's not overly complex.
I rate it an eight.
Amazing Backup Solution
Since Veeam v1.0 to today, they always provide a great and consistent experience!
Backup made easy and fast
1. Speed in backup and restore
2. Robust secure configs
We could restore an entire VM of 1.5TB to ESXi in about 15 minutes from a local drive to local. We benchmarked against other backup software but nothing is as close to this speed.
We run hourly backups and the ease of intergrating them into multiple vCenters is just excellent.
Maybe the next step is to actually get a higher tier subscription for malware scannning.
Try the community edition for yourself and experience it.
Navigating isn't the easiest. Config is feature packed. Security is so tight you would love to hate it.
But better secure than insecure.
One small drawback might be the backup size that Veeam creates. They are so massive that you might have to upgrade your datastore just to accomodate the backups.
I had to call Veeam support a few times just to get my head around where is everything and how to configure everything.
physical, virtual, cloud veeam can do it all
restore machines that have been infected with malware.
Ease of use was good for a myriad of users. I like the transparency in seeing all data
Offers easy-to-navigate features but needs improvement in technical support
What is our primary use case?
My company uses Veeam's available tools on an on-premises model. We don't have a cloud workload. We aim for the on-premises replication and backup application through Veeam.
Veeam ONE is used as a backup for all of our critical workloads. My company also does the replication part with DR. Veeam ONE, which is used for centralized monitoring and for all the workloads, so it will give us some kind of capacity planning and performance recommendations.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that the replication part can be managed with some kind of automatic switchover capabilities as well, which is a good feature available compared with other products. We won't have to deal with the servers with different IPs that are segmented since Veeam ONE automatically takes care of it. We can also do a switchover from primary DB to DR or DR to primary DB, and it is somewhat very easy and user-friendly, especially if you compare it with other products. The tool provides an easy-to-navigate feature of all the functionalities it has for its users.
What needs improvement?
There are certain shortcomings associated with the virtualization infrastructure. If it is possible to have some kind of infrastructure that provides application visibility, then it can be a huge advantage for the users.
I would like to expand a total maintenance solution for the infrastructure side which can include applications, storage, and everything. Veeam ONE will be confined to some VM resource-level solutions, but I think it needs to grow beyond that.
I want the product to be available at a cheaper rate.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam ONE for more than four years. I am a customer of the tool. I think my company uses Veeam ONE 7.0, which is the latest version of the product.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten. Introducing a cloud version of the tool can increase its scalability.
Only the administration people use Veeam ONE, which consists of around two or three people.
The product is used on a daily basis.
There is no plan to increase the number of users associated with the product.
How are customer service and support?
There are no immediate technical certified people in Sri Lanka. Support is very difficult. Certified people are not available to provide support services. I rate the tool's support services as a three out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Negative
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Currently, our company uses Barracuda Spam Filter and Barracuda Email Security Gateway. My company also uses an open-source ESP tool for email security. I have experience with Commvault and Veritas.
How was the initial setup?
On a scale of one to ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy to set up, I rate the product's initial setup phase a seven out of ten. With the configuration part, the lack of technical people, like engineers or local engineers, to do the setup part is an issue, and it is the only difficulty that we have come across.
During the product's deployment phase, there are a few configuration issues while doing certain kinds of activities.
The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.
The solution can be deployed in one or two days.
One person can deploy the solution.
What was our ROI?
I think the tool saves us time and effort when doing any type of activity.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
On a one to ten scale, where one is very cheap and ten is very expensive, I rate the price as a five out of ten.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I evaluated Veeam ONE against Commvault. Veeam ONE's replication capability is better than that of Commvault.
What other advice do I have?
The product has improved data management tasks, especially in the area of capacity planning. The capacity planning provides suggestions on which VMs where oversizing is required or whether there is under sizing that is required.
The analytics capabilities have helped our company's decision making processes since based on the tool's capacity planning feature, we will know what will be the resource consumption. Based on the resource consumption part, we can decide whether we need to go in with another resource allocation or do we need some kind of a hardware upgrade. It is possible to have an initial budget allocation based on the usage of the resources.
I am satisfied with the product.
I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

I have been using the solution for a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the tool’s stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The tool is easy to scale. It is very straightforward. The solution is required for all tiers of businesses. It can be used for the critical machines in our environment. However, small and medium businesses may not be able to afford it.
How are customer service and support?
The support team must improve the response time.
How would you rate customer service and support?

I'd rate the scalability of this solution as an eight out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
I've contacted Veeam's technical support, and I found it to be very good. They responded promptly within two hours when I had an issue with restarting a process, and they were able to solve the problem effectively.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.I'd rate my experience with the initial setup as an eight out of 10 for ease. The solution is deployed on the cloud using CrownCloud as the provider. The deployment took approximately thirty minutes, and it was done by an integrator, requiring two people for the deployment.
What was our ROI?
I've observed a return on investment mostly during problem instances where quick recovery or restarts are crucial. It's akin to having insurance; you might not use it often, but when needed, it's invaluable to have.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We dont have the exact licensing costs, but we pay for a comprehensive service package that includes technical support, cloud services, and data center services. There may be additional costs beyond the standard license, but I'm not sure about the specifics. However, I believe the yearly cost is around five thousand dollars.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before using Veeam Data Platform, I evaluated other options such as Big Kapolei and SZAC. However, I decided to go with VMware Data Platform because it seemed more appropriate for our virtual machine environment and the integration looked good.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Veeam Data Platform an eight overall.
