A high performing software for backup, replication and restoration of data

  • August 24, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam Backup & Replication mainly for backup purposes.

What is most valuable?

Instant recovery, ease of use, and integrations are some of the valuable features.

What needs improvement?

It would be preferable if they could introduce a complete Linux version instead of relying solely on Microsoft for management.
There should be a unified integration of all their products. Currently, there are various products like cloud backup and others that exist separately. It would be better if they could create a single comprehensive platform or product, as opposed to having disparate products that lack proper communication between them.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have an experience of ten years with Veeam Backup & Replication.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's highly scalable if at a proxy zone.

I would rate the scalability seven out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is quite supportive.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The setup is on-premises and takes half a day for the first part. The next part takes a few hours

The deployment process requires a few steps, to download the file and follow the standard procedure as instructed.

I would rate the initial setup nine out of ten.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The changes in pricing have been an interesting aspect. It seems to have become pricier, resulting in a reduction in affordability. There are extra expenses involved, including hardware requirements and the procurement of operating system licenses, which must also be taken into account.

I would rate the price seven out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

The use varies according to the customer’s specific requirements. It serves as a commendable backup option for on-premises VMware setups. However, for alternative scenarios or situations demanding a worldwide scope, there might be alternative solutions available within the market.
I would rate eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Has a straightforward backup process

  • August 23, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It is convenient to create backups of virtual machines, and hard disks. It's also applicable for backing up various other services. When dealing with a heavy workload, the process of backup is designed to be straightforward. It involves transferring data from on-premise to the cloud or vice versa. This encompasses different usage scenarios.

How has it helped my organization?

Veeam's Instant Recovery feature allowed my organization to continue operations during file server failure by immediately restoring lost data.

What is most valuable?

Instant Recovery is an useful feature.

What needs improvement?

It is efficient but can improve security-wise.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for the last three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

How are customer service and support?

The support is good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

How was the initial setup?

It required 2-3 people to deploy. It is deployed in a hybrid manner. It took almost 2-3 hours for the process to complete.

The deployment procedure begins by accessing the Veeam Backup website to download the necessary software. Subsequently, the software is managed on the server where installation is intended. Before proceeding with installation, it's recommended to have a backup, ensuring functionality on the server. The installation process itself is distinct, not combined with the backup sector. Each step is downloadable, contributing to the installation information. The final step involves creating a backup job. Users can choose the backup type they prefer, whether it's full, implemented, or differential. Following this, the backup can be saved on desired media, such as servers.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is not expensive and I would rate it five out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We considered other vendors but discovered that the Veeam Backup has establishment as a direct node-to-node connection and synchronization with other systems.

What other advice do I have?

I can recommend that it serves as a good solution. The code constitutes a comprehensive answer. It effectively backs up all workloads. This applies to various scenarios – from email to physical and virtual machines, services, SAP DNS, and Azure DNS – allowing for comprehensive backup solutions. It extends to cloud-based backups as well. Essentially, it covers the entirety of our workload, whether on our infrastructure or network.

I would rate it an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

An easy-to-deploy product with simple configurations that can be used as a repository for storing data

  • August 23, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We have used the solution for combining cloud and on-premise storage, like a hybrid repository for storing our data and offloading. We have also created backups for Exchange and SQL. We also use the solution for endpoint protection like laptops and bare metal restore.

What is most valuable?

The product has introduced cloud storage, which can be used directly for backing up the data. We need not have an on-premise storage location. It makes everything easy. The product’s configuration and settings are very easy.

What needs improvement?

The endpoint protection console is not centralized. It needs to be improved. The product must improve its reporting features so that it can be used for audit purposes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for at least eight years.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. If everything is in place, deploying the solution takes one to two hours.

What about the implementation team?

One or two people from our team can handle the deployment process. They have admin-level access to the server. It is easy. No other intervention is required.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the tool’s pricing a seven out of ten. The product is expensive for small businesses. However, it is not that expensive.

What other advice do I have?

The product is suitable for a BDM organization that does not have the option to store data on-premise. It is really easy to manage. It can also be restored very easily. If we have a good network speed, it does a quicker restore. Overall, I rate the solution an eight and a half out of ten.

Engineers Built Veeam to Last

  • August 22, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Veeam is a solid product that performs consistently and without manual intervention. It just works....
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few different pieces, Backup & Recover, VeeamOne, Enterprise, all the parts can get a bit overwhelming, especially during the upgrade process (what do I upgrade first? what relies on other applications?)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The granular recovery for AD and Exchange is flawless, saves us the intermediate step of using a 3rd party application to perform steps, it's all under one pane of glass.

Easy to setup and highly scalable solution

  • August 22, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It is a useful solution for backing up and restoring computing environments, such as machines, physical servers, and workstations. It is an easy, stable, and reliable solution.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution are its ease of deployment, its many interesting functions, and its good performance for both backup and restoration.

What needs improvement?

The price could be optimized, and I am still waiting for support for physical hardware. However, it is currently easy to back up and restore environments with this software.

So, there is room for improvement in the pricing model and support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with this solution for five years. We have provided this solution to over ten customers.

We offer it to customers who need to back up and restore virtual machines and, for the past two years, physical servers and workstations.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's stable and performs well.

I would rate the stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is good if you have the right licenses and storage. Adding equipment and defining backup processes is straightforward. We are around 10 to 15 customers using this solution.

I would rate the scalability a ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are quite good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy. Setting up virtual machines is as simple as clicking next, next, finish. You then add the necessary equipment for backup and restore. Once the project is set up, it's stable and manageable through Veeam ONE. You can ensure your environment is in good shape and even debug if needed.

What about the implementation team?

For the deployment process, identify assets for backup, define backup and restore policies, ensure storage aligns with the environment, and verify correct licensing for the equipment.

We require four admins for the deployment and maintenance of the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing model is an annual subscription, not too expensive. There are some additional costs, but it's not very expensive and you can choose any environment.

I would rate the pricing a five out of ten, in the middle.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten.

I would advise determining the required disk space, defining backup policies clearly, and planning for the necessary equipment.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Perfect software - continued enhancements - Fast, reliable, and secure - Great support!

  • August 21, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Integrates with a lot of different hardware platforms and great support, as well as an active support community forum. Backups are effortless, fast, and have yet to have a restore job fail. We've been with Veeam for almost a decade now.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some cloud providers are not fast to catch up to the latest features offered by Veeam even when given half a year to opt in for advanced testing. This is not a slam at Veeam at all, but I have to fill something in here and it's rather irritating to be paying for a cloud service to store my data and not be able to use it if we want the latest features of Veeam. (Here's looking at you iLand!) Grrrr
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Quick and easy backups that are reliable and simple to restore. It's like magic of the backup world. I've seen other solutions in the market that look great, but none come with the small price tag Veeam has, and support is top notch.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used NetBackup. It was really confusing. Veeam’s interface is quite easy to use and configure.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for the backup of the servers on-premise. We also use it to back up our mailbox.

What is most valuable?

The solution is very user-friendly. I find the compression rate to be very good. It's very easy to go through the restoration process to locate an individual file.

What needs improvement?

It would be better if the solution presented the number of servers and the success rate on the dashboard. Currently, we have to click on user history or get it through emails.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and seamless. We have about 80 users in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

The support is good. When I had an issue, the team was very receptive and provided the assistance required through remote sessions. It was very, very good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Backup Exec. We then switched to Veeam ONE because it is very practical and has different applications integrated with it.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment took two days.

What about the implementation team?

The service providers did the implementation. The solution is easy to maintain. The number of people required for maintenance depends on the size of the business. We need one person to maintain the product in our organization.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I find the pricing to be okay. We have to pay for the license yearly. There are no additional costs associated with the product.

What other advice do I have?

Veeam ONE is a very good product. The usage depends on our organization, whether we're using Linux or Windows. It's compatible with all. The product is seamless. Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.
