A highly customizable and powerful LMS option
What do you like best about the product?
You can do anything you can imagine in D2L. Faculty can easily deliver high-quality content, create engaging asynchronous learning activities, monitor student progress, automate outreach, personalize learning pathways, provide frequent feedback, facilitate group assignments, administer tests and quizzes, and get the data they need to inform their instruction. D2L is very receptive to customer feedback and requests and is always launching improvements and new features that just keep making it easier to create beautiful, engaging, and effective learning experiences.
What do you dislike about the product?
It has not been possible to copy modules and push course templates, but I think CreateSpace will help with that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Providing an online learning environment for our faculty and students
Why D2L Brigtspace is a great LMS
What do you like best about the product?
D2L Brightspace is a well-known learning platform that is user-friendly and equipped with valuable features. It provides excellent support while emphasizing accessibility and continuous improvements, making it an ideal option for online education.
What do you dislike about the product?
Navigation can be difficult for new users. There are multiple pathways to the same information, and this can lead to confusion with some students.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
D2L Brightspace optimizes the learning experience for students. It fosters engagement among both students and instructors.
Brightspace works well from both sides
What do you like best about the product?
I use D2L Brightspace daily in three main capacities within higher education: Student Support Specialist: regular engagement to assist students with technical and course-related issues. Adjunct Instructor: Manage course materials, communicate with students, grade assignments, and facilitate online and blended classes. Former Online Graduate Student: Completed coursework and collaborated with peers using the platform.
What I like best:
Streamlined Course Management: Centralizes course content, announcements, discussions, and grades, making it easy to organize and access materials. Communication Tools: Discussion boards, group messaging, and announcements provide effective ways to keep students informed and engaged. Intelligent Agents: help automate engagement messaging to give the appearance of being "always on" and let my students know if they're missing any details.

What do you dislike about the product?
Navigation Complexity: Some menus and settings require too many clicks, especially when switching between instructor and student views. Grading features are occasionally less than intuitive. Mobile Experience: The app is functional but less robust than the desktop version, with some features hard to locate or access on the go.
Recommend that you take time to customize your course. Learn the dashboards, calendar notifications, release conditions and intelligent agents for your biggest class issues. Use clear labeling and the description feature to prepare students for what is / isn't in the next module. Make clear, unambiguous decisions about your gradebook before you start setting it up.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Brightspace combines announcements, resources, assessments, and communication in one place, helping students find what they need. Manages assignments, feedback, grades, and discussions efficiently even for fully remote learners. Quick visibility widgets help me see student progress at a glance, identifying and reaching out to those who need help.
Reasonably sound product. Company’s contracting team is horrid to work with!
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, allows for integrations with external systems. But all decent LMS worth buying can do that too.
What do you dislike about the product?
Expensive forever what it is. Finance team is very difficulty to work with.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
That didn’t resolve any problems. We selected D2L as our LMS provider because our sister departments at the university used it. Looking back on that decision, I question why we did it.
Brightspace review
What do you like best about the product?
Brightspace has an intuitive interface and the design is user-friendly and modern. The analytics and tracking features provide detailed insights into usage and engagement, with multiple ways to provide interventions that improve student success.
What do you dislike about the product?
Faculty seem to struggle with the gradebook specifically. It has all the features we need but the layout is not intuitive, with multiple locations for making setting changes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Brightspace is the LMS for our 2 year institution.
One of the best options in LMS
What do you like best about the product?
The big capacity and the intuitive system
What do you dislike about the product?
Probably that you can not link some specific videos into the page
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We could improve the quality of contents and we achieve standarize the content for the different branches in the country
Modernizing Higher Education
What do you like best about the product?
Brightspace has a great deal of options through Creative +, and courses can be designed to be engaging. I absolutely love the ability to use HTML embeds in the content area allowing the creation of OER content. We moved from Blackboard to Brightspace, and I cannot say enough good things about Jackie the trainer. She is a former professor and really helped our staff and faculty learn the tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
Be careful of the wording used by D2L during the RFP process. They do not call things the same thing as you might be call them. Also, they are not forthcoming about prices for add-on products or fees. While they think this is a good tactic because it makes the RFP price lower, it shows that they do not really understand higher education funding cycles. We can't go to bat for more money in the middle of a fiscal year. We've told them this; others have told them this and they simply refuse to change their process. So, be sure to ask all the questions and about all hidden products and fees during your RFP process. The tools are all worth it, and it stumps me why they don't just include all those opportunities at the front gate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our faculty wanted to move away from blackboard and use a more modern LMS. D2L is very modern and engaging, and most everyone is happy with the transition.
Brightspace D2L: A Powerful, Intuitive Platform for Educators
What do you like best about the product?
The platform is exceptionally well organized, making navigation straightforward for both instructors and learners. Its intuitive layout allows me to quickly access the tools I need to build, manage, and assess learning content. I especially appreciate the integration with tools like H5P, which enhances interactivity and student engagement.
What do you dislike about the product?
OFI: Interface with AI to allow lesson planning within the D2L frame.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With over 20 years of experience in training across government, manufacturing, and service sectors, Brightspace D2L stands out as a reliable and efficient learning management system. Since adopting it at Conestoga College, I’ve seen how well it supports professional course design, learner engagement, and performance tracking. I often think how much smoother my earlier projects would have been had I discovered this platform sooner.
Best LMS in my career
What do you like best about the product?
For the past 13 years, I have been managing D2L Brightspace, and in my 22-year career, it stands out as the best LMS I've encountered. Its user-friendly design, clean interface, extensive functionalities, and robust API are just a few of its many strengths. Additionally, the exceptional support provided by their professional and dedicated teams—ranging from admin and student assistance to management at all levels—further solidifies its position as a top-tier LMS.
What do you dislike about the product?
User profiles are not fully accessible out of the box, requiring the use of APIs to extract the necessary data. This initial setup may involve a steep learning curve, especially for those unfamiliar with the system or API integration.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Brightspace allows us to efficiently deliver online courses to a variety of audiences, including both institutional and external users, all within one instance.
Brightspace is a great LMS for developing courses and hosting them.
What do you like best about the product?
It has most of the features that a course developer and trainer needs to put on a suite of courses. It is fairly easy for course participants to use, if the course designer has put thought into the flow.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is somewhat expensive. You might only use about 10% of its real capacity. You might never know what it can do.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We want course participants to be able to take their courses easily.
