Great tool for data exploration

  • November 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude is a great tool for anyone, regardless of analytics/SQL knowledge, to explore a business's data and answer easy-to-medium business questions very quickly. The event segmentation and funnel charts are quite intuitive and allow you to compare activity levels and custom conversion metrics among cohorts that you can define and create.

It is extremely easy to change the time frame of a chart, look at multiple metrics on the same chart, compare different user groups, look at groupings to quickly rank items, compare to a previous quarter/year/etc. In any chart, you can drill into a set of users - for example, you could create a cohort from a funnel chart to explore the group of users that did not perform a conversion activity. These different features are much faster than writing and running SQL queries, even for seasoned analysts.

It is surprisingly easy to share content and discover content using the search feature. We have a medium-sized organization, and even though we have several hundred charts/dashboards/notebooks, the search options and filters are sufficient to quickly find what you are looking for.

The data management tools make it easy for an organization's data owners to transform events and event properties to make them easier to understand and use.

Finally, Amplitude's integrations, specifically with Braze, make it so that we can easily track CRM engagement and build advanced conversion funnels that help us determine what messages are most effective.
What do you dislike about the product?
Currently, Amplitude does not have the ability to perform state-based analytics. It also does not allow you to look at more than 3 years of data at a time. Most of the time, neither of these two limitations is an issue. However, for businesses that have data going back many years or who take in historical data, this requires rather complex and/or sophisticated workarounds.

Additionally, there are custom events that you can create using the data management tool, but you cannot create custom event properties that are derived from other event properties. This occasionally makes things difficult or infeasible in Amplitude and requires outside SQL work.

There are other smaller things, such as the way Amplitude computes averages in its event segmentation charts or the fact that you have to hold constant a property across all events in a funnel instead of just the events where that property is applicable.

Amplitude is not a perfect out-of-the-box solution. It requires a strong data owner to make sure that all of the necessary data is sent to Amplitude and that it is in a usable format. Non-analytics users will also need to spend some time familiarizing themselves with their organization's data and how it is structured. Even with the ability to rename and customize events, our organization has dozens of events and hundreds of event properties - not all of these are used very frequently, but the data learning curve is fairly steep, and it is necessary to get the most out of Amplitude.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Amplitude to understand how our CRM messaging is working through its integration with Braze. We can compare cohorts of users who have opened/not opened an email, compare different email subject lines or message variations, etc. across any metric that we define. This is in contrast to a typical situation where conversion events would have to be explicitly defined and implemented prior to launching a campaign.

We also use Amplitude to build very specific and complex cohorts and compare them across a range of metrics. We can define dynamic cohorts using event data, or we can build static cohorts to look at a specific group of users and their behavior over time. This has made it so that we can easily identify our most valuable user cohorts and see how their behavior differs from less valuable cohorts.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Data owners need to be prepared to perform a lot of set-up work, both to set up and verify that data is flowing into Amplitude correctly and to use the data management tools to make the data easy to understand and use for the organization.

For the non-data people, they need to be prepared to learn their organization's data and how it is structured. They should also be prepared to do their own exploration and to try building their own charts rather than relying on an analytics team.

Useful for making decisions based on data

  • November 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The visualization of the data with bar and line graphs really makes it helpful to see what the data is saying
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't know how I can have more control over it like sql, for example, if I wanted to select all iPads, there's several device types, whereas in SQL I could do something like WHERE device LIKE "%ipad%"
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using analytics we can see statistics about our users, for example, what percentage of our users have adopted iOS 14 so we can use the latest technologies if enough users have upgraded
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's helpful when you want to make data-driven decisions. Many times for things like wanting to add support for a particular device like iPad it's hard to get buy-in from leadership but when you can use Amplitude to show, look, our users are using our iPhone apps on an iPad, it's minimal work to support that device type and we could positively market it, it makes sense. It also gives an idea on your current user base. For example, when I want to know what percentage of our users are on iOS 13 and above so I can start using SwiftUI or Combine, we can have hard numbers that really demonstrate what that would look like and what the impact would be on our users. Overall I'd recommend using Amplitude if there's scenarios like the ones I listed because it lays to rest suppositions and uses data.

What do you like best about the product?
This tool is quite intuitive to use for product analytical purposes, I like the way you can create custom groups of events, it also offers an excellent customizable control panel, also the charts and dashboards update automatically, the platform simply extracts and it organizes a lot of information by itself, makes product analytics much easier, it also integrates to database events with query workflows, it also has real-time analytics so you can know what is happening at all times.
What do you dislike about the product?
Since I am using this product I have not had any problems, it is very easy to use and it is a great way to be close to users, I have nothing negative to say about this software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is an excellent tool especially for analysis, now it is much easier to keep track of all my information without complex queries or scripts, without complicated models or codes, it also allows me to closely monitor the performance of our entire product with very little additional elevation, it also provides a wide variety of charts and tools to help us conduct a more detailed investigation.

I recommend the use of this product for its excellent performance and ease of use, it is ideal for any user in general.

Amplitude Slickdeals review

  • September 03, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of creating charts and telling a story through data. I really like the event management as well. It's super easy to upload a picture of the event whether it's a click event or page view event. In addition, being able to write a description of the event and when it triggers is super helpful for our development teams and our product teams. It gives me, as a product management, an ability of control that I previously did not have. In summary, Amplitude is super easy to use, integrate, and control data within.
What do you dislike about the product?
Being able to edit and organize isn't the most intuitive within the interface. I wish there was an undo button when you're working on creating a chart. There are many times where I'll be selecting certain audiences and events and then I want to go back to a view I was looking at 5 minutes ago that I did not save. Ex. in excel I'd just hit undo.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've benefited from being able to see user journeys and a stronger view into our retention rates. We also use the data for deeper insights into our A/B testing which is something we were never able to get in the past.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
My only advice would be understand how many MTKs you get with your contract. It can be frustrating not being able to track your entire audience. If you're ok with a snapshot of your audience or paying more for more MTKs then you'll be fine.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that's a tool accessible to everyone regardless of their technical background. In other words, you don't need to know SQL or other coding languages to use amplitude.
What do you dislike about the product?
Firstly, there are some basic SQL limitations, for example, you can't use "or" arguments on the where clause. Second, It has limitations in terms of the analysis you can build with it outside form the proposed templates.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly usage and retention problems. One huge benefit is that you can easily identify how users are interacting with your app (with the pathfinder for example). Also, I loved the recent feature "historical count" which has helped us identify milestones and retention drivers in our product.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It has limitations for more specific analysis.

What do you like best about the product?
1. Great and professional support from Amplitude team
2. Variety of different features to analyze product and user journey
3. Real-time data option
4. Data comparison feature helps a lot when checking different kind of drops or increases in volumes
What do you dislike about the product?
1. Long loading time for reports with larger number of filters
2. Need extremely detailed tagging in order for all events would be captured correctly
3. Event segmentation feature is not intuitive
4. Not all events show in user journey can be used in event segmentation or funnel analysis charts
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Amplitude Analytics for site/mobile app monitoring. It is very convenient to check API health, receipt trend, conversion rates and user journey from one step to another. We are also building dashboards in order to monitor our product health and various KPIs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have a clear plan of what is needed in your organization and prepare detailed tagging plan: what events you would like to track, what information needs to be captured.
