Very useful but poor UX

  • November 23, 2020

What do you like best about the product?
I think graphs are a great way to visualize data. I also like the variety of properties and events by which you can filter users
What do you dislike about the product?
When I download things in csv format they are impossible to work with, even after I clean them of white space. I cannot perform operations with them in Excel (sums, index match). Also, I would luke to be able to look up events without creating a separate chart every time
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can analyze users’ behaviour and journeys in the app. I can also figure out if there is an issue with stickiness or retention
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think it takes a bit of time to get used to it but once you do it’s an incredibly powerful tool

Very robust product analytics platform. Tight integration with segment, Highly recommended.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very fast and intuitive to use, yet still powerful. Very often analytics platforms either hide away too much making them worthless for deriving insights or are so complex that they become difficult to use. I find the Amplitude has struck a very good balance in complexity while making the interface intuitive enough for anyone to figure out.
What do you dislike about the product?
Could see it falling apart if you are not consistent with naming your fields / events.

Some of the add on features are still a WIP and not ready for primetime.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helps us confirm changes are working as intended. Also helpful for diving into user journeys to root cause potential issues.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're using Segment, I can't imagine a better platform to use.

Amplitude has been invaluable to my team

  • November 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude is incredibly user-friendly and customizable for your needs. Event segmentation charts, Cohorts, and Dashboards have been the most valuable features for me and my team. For understanding feature usage and tracking product metrics, event segmentation charts make it easy to track growth over time. Cohorts are extremely useful for comparing across different sets of users and helps us make informed product decisions based on how these users engage with our app. Dashboards make it simple to keep track of my most viewed/used charts and improve the shareability of our most relevant metrics.
What do you dislike about the product?
Certain features could be a bit more usable. For example, when editing Cohorts, you're forced to save before it recalculates which is a bit annoying if you're trying to see differences before saving. Also, when exporting charts to CSV it would be helpful if there was an option to download the full data vs just the high level numbers shown on the chart.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Amplitude helps my team solve several business problems. It helps us to track KPIs and OKRs for reporting purposes, so that product and leadership have visibility into the success of our mobile app targets. Additionally, it helps me understand user behavior and feature usage, i.e. getting a full picture of how users are interacting with our app to inform new feature prioritization and development. Amplitude is also helpful in tying user analytics to relationship/client data from other areas in the organization so that we can get a better sense of who are strike zone/heavy users are. Lastly, Amplitude has been very useful in triaging issues reported by clients – seeing the live stream of activities they've performed as well as the full context of their user properties is incredibly valuable in helping resolve their issues.

Easy to visualize product performance and understand my users

  • November 20, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's fairly simple to both setup and share a dashboard to track both everyday product performance and performance of experiments & a/b tests.
The UX is fairly intuitive which saves me a ton of time trying to navigate through new and existing features
What do you dislike about the product?
- There are a handful of gaps in visualizing metrics which sometimes make it frustrating to get a complete picture of the data quickly.

- It's painful to clean up legacy unused events or to edit and combine user property values.

- There's a cap on the number of events permitted which seems unnecessary and requires manual action to clean up which takes away from the time I spend on other more valuable activities

- Firing up new dashboards while slicing the data by different attributes is not the easiest of things to do and requires a ton of manual work. It's not scalable a process when you do this often enough.

- Overall, I'd recommend that the amplitude team focus on features that help small product teams operate at greater efficiency. I care less about a flash in the pan feature than one that saves me time
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- Visualizing everyday performance of my apps along with KPIs.
- Alerting regarding the above metrics
- Setting up dashboards for a/b tests

Overall, the simplicity of setting up charts and dashboards is what I enjoy. This makes it simple to share charts with other stakeholders and to spark discussions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is a great and easy to use tool foir

Amplitude is a great tool for quickly understanding real-time data

  • November 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate how quick and responsive Amplitude is compared to other forms of querying/aggregating data. Usually, it only takes a couple of seconds to create a view of something.
What do you dislike about the product?
Searchability is a little lacking - it's sometimes hard for me to find the correct events to look in to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I usually use amplitude for querying real-time data. Otherwise, I am using SQL/Snowflake to look at data. Oftentimes, Amplitude is used to diagnose issues and bugs with a feature, and is a quicker method of doing so. It's also easy to share with others.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a great tool that software engineers and data scientists can use together.

Great tool for Product Managers

  • November 18, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The tool is a delight to use with a vast array of options to cut and visualise the data. I spend a bunch of time looking at cohorts and funnels and Amplitude makes this super easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
With the amount of data we send to Amplitude, one thing I see as an area of improvement is the speed of the platform. Sometimes, it feels like the engines and whirring up behind the scenes in Amplitude.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Learning user behaviour through data which helps us answer - is this expected or not?
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jump in and start building charts. That's the best way to learn!

Good product overall with a few shortcomings

  • November 18, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very easy to setup a funnel or an event segmentation. A small feat that I really like is the autocomplete for event names and property values when building a graph.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main issue me and my team have is with user permissions:

When a person on our team creates a graph or a dashboard, they have to manually add the rest of us (8 people in total) as owners to that graph so that anyone can apply changes to it. It Admin users can edit user permissions but in an organizational structure like Shopify's, it's not feasible to be granted admin rights for the sake of editing graph permissions.

In short we'd like to see user permission being more flexible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our team is mostly using the Funnel views to track different user conversion flows. When one of the funnels experiences drops in conversion, we also rely on the step-by-step drill down to pinpoint which step is responsible for the drop.

We also use Amplitude as a replacement to a database query. For example, if we want to check the # of users per iOS and Android, we'd usually use Event Segmentation to get that number fast. Alternatively we'd have to go to our data warehouse which means identifying the correct tables and columns to query which is generally slower.

Amplitude is a helpful tool for seeing your product's clickstream metrics.

  • November 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude has a conversational interface that makes it easy to visualize what you're asking it to display. It's easy to pick up the basics. It's fairly intuitive to understand and if your product has thorough instrumentation, you can pretty much figure out exactly what you want to know, or test into it. It's easy to share and teach.
What do you dislike about the product?
At least for our implementation, there is not a way to view metrics across platforms. So for example, you have to create 3 duplicate charts to see your clickstream data for iOS, Android, and web, rather than being able to put all 3 on the same chart. There is also not really instruction for how to use the different chart types or segments, etc. I have to rely on googling or internal knowledge rather than having instructions available in product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We currently use it to track usage metrics, the actions users take in our product, retention, user paths, offer conversion, and to monitor A/B tests. The dashboards are easy to share, understand, and copy for small edits.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's easier to use than Adobe Analytics, easy to teach and pick up quickly. However beyond the basics it's not as intuitive. It's best to have an internal team member who knows the "tricks" rather than trying to pick it all up by yourself.

Great tool that allows for deep customizations, and simple to use

  • November 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use - for example, creating funnel analysis charts is very intuitive, and insightful.

My favorite part is how deep you can customize Event Segmentation charts. Not only can you dig deep into the event attributes and create highly valuable, customized charts, but it's so easy to set these sorts of charts up.

For being a user of ~2 months, I'd have to say this is one of the only tools like this that I've ramped up this quickly on.
What do you dislike about the product?
Once you have a lot of events stored in your Amplitude (millions of events), it can load charts a little slowly. It's fine, it's not a dealbreaker, but maybe something for the engineering team to think about - I've seen charts load upwards of 2-3 minutes before (depending on the size of the data that needs to be loaded)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Digging into user behaviors to validate product decisions, mostly. I've realized that we get very accurate insights from this tool, so it's extremely reliable.
