Amplitude Analytics is a great tool for measuring site and app analytics

  • August 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to check API health, receipt trend, conversion rates from one step to another. Also, it is a great help in trying to figure out the patterns when something is not working.
What do you dislike about the product?
When you don’t follow their event guidelines it’s hard to use their other features like user flow.
Sometimes events are too much so we have to throttle them as a result we are not able to use it to measure absolute numbers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are measuring funnel metrics and other key product metrics. Anyone can independently use the tool without having any knowledge of sql
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It’s a great tool if you’re low on analytics bandwidth in the company. Many out of box solutions are really good

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use to quickly and efficiently visualize key data points and cohorts without the SQL experience or ad hoc support from our internal data team.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have had some issues with implementation, but after we made it through these issues it was easy going with plenty of support from the Amplitude team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking MAU / Retention / Churn along with daily key metrics that help dive engagement, revenue, and build relevant cohorts to target.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go into implementation and set up with a plan that includes all stake holders from your internal teams that will be using this platform daily: Data, Sales, Growth/Marketing, and Product

What do you like best about the product?
Love the plug and play reporting, love the support team, love the usability of all this.
What do you dislike about the product?
Our company is at the point where we needed more advanced reporting that ties data from a lot different sources, that is cut more granularly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We understand so much about our users and how they use our product from their first moment of engagement, to conversion, to retention. My favorite part is the easy dashboarding for stakeholders.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great tool for data-shy orgs that don't need a custom in house solution.

Easy to Use and Even Easier to Communicate Insights

  • August 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- The charts are extensive and straight forward
- The visualizations are well designed
- Easy to share insights with colleagues
- There is a lot of insights you can gain from looking at your data through Amplitude, from the Pathfinder functionality to looking at Retention, which allows you to dig into your raw data in ways that sets it apart from other tools
What do you dislike about the product?
- The real time functionality needs a little work, it would be helpful in terms of QAing to be able to see whether or not events are firing a little bit quick
- New sessions should not be created whenever a users opens a new tab, but rather be browser session specific. Since we are tracking events that go through a funnel that introduces a likelihood of opening a new tab or window, it tends to conflate the numbers and doesn't really allow us to look at unique users in the way we would like. Further, it conflates the Page View event since each new tab event is a unique session.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- The North Star metric methodology allows me to align different teams around the same goals as well as track important bench marks
- Whenever something looks amiss in the data, Amplitude makes it easy to dig in and identify the problem.
- The cohort functionality allows me to look at my users in different ways and identify the right groups to target
Recommendations to others considering the product:
- It is worth the extra money to get the valuable insights your company needs.

Staff Engineer

What do you like best about the product?
I have been very excited about the opportunity to define my own custom dashboards and charts. Recently, I created a dashboard for other engineers in the team to get status on the overall health of the application. I instrumented events for things such as page performance, purchasing flow user errors & success. Having these events in place gives me great confidence in being able to confidently operate our product.

I also find that the developer documentation is good and that it is readily available. When I introduced Amplitude to the codebase and started evangelizing to other teams, I was able to refer to the developer documentation, which made integration easy.

I have also found the recent addition of slack integrations helpful. Before I did not have visibility on when team members added new charts, but now seeing these changes is easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
There were some problems earlier with at older versions of amplitude SDK that wrote quite large cookies in the browser, which resulted in 431 HTTP errors in the product. I notice that this is happening less frequently now, but due to running multiple instances of Amplitude under the same domain when using iframes, we still see this error pop up every now and then.

I posted a few questions to Amplitude recently about their suggestions on best practices on how to instrument a few events, but unfortunately I did not hear back. Perhaps this was a mistake, but perhaps offering more help on this front would be nice.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are tracking various user funnels, feature use across different screen sizes, tracking page performance & errors etc.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When instrumenting amplitude events, think what is the question you are trying to answer first.

An excellent, easy to use tool to track your tests

  • August 26, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I come from Adobe Analytics/Adobe Omniture, and that was super complex to use.

With amplitude I can easily draft out a chart in the Event Segmentation and figure out if my a/b tests are running properly. This is also super easy/fast to set up so I can get a chart running (or I can copy a chart from someone else) and start building!

I like the different views as well, such as the realtime views, the daily average/hourly average/etc. Even more would be great.
What do you dislike about the product?
Limitations in the realtime graphs, I'd like to be able to see more than 1 day's. I'd like to also see more chart options!

Adding in more analysis tools, adding Chi square tests, standard deviation, confidence interval calculations. Resources for non stats majors or people who simply forgot all their stats they learned in college.

Sometimes it is buggy when coming back from another tab (I see a white screen), and in that scenario I'd like to see it load faster.

Also I notice that the tests can be sort-of unreliable (i.e. control group consistently bigger than variant) but I think that's more on the way we flag users for A/B tests.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A/B Testing.

Benefits are that I can draw up a chart easily and report to others very quickly on how the rollouts or a/b tests are doing. If I want to do a quick analysis on two separate flags in production I can do it easily.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use it if you think Adobe Analytics/Omniture is too difficult to use

    Information Technology and Services

Approachable UI for non-technical users, but somewhat limited in client event schema flexibility

  • August 26, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The cloud-based architecture is great for non-technical people--no local drivers or software required to start viewing or creating dashboards and it's easy to share and collaborate with others.
What do you dislike about the product?
Amplitude requires almost perfect forward clairvoyance. Without knowing exactly which event properties you want to transform and how you will use them so you can implement them in your product's client events, I feel more drawn to a data warehouse querying interface than Amplitude. Since I can't self-service these transformations, I have to ask our engineering team to explicitly send the results of a transformation (adding eng time cost and taking up event space within Amplitude) or ask for something custom, which are both not ideal alternatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Amplitude helps us quickly see product usage metrics without needing to set up complex data pipelines. We really enjoy the integrated data platform that includes both ingestion and processing, as well as the lightweight and opinionated visualizations and analyses that are easy to set up in Amplitude.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for an easy, well-structured product and behavioral analytics platform, Amplitude is an excellent choice. However, be aware that Amplitude cannot replace the full spectrum of data needs at a growing technology company, namely data warehousing and querying.

Amplitude has come so far!

  • August 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to quickly spin up a chart to answer a question I have, is easier than ever. Also, the new Data Governance tools give product analytics folks the ability to finally take control of data governance, which is far more important than most folks realize. I love that I can rename event names or property values on the fly. It makes the eng/dev process much faster so I don't always need to get engineering to change the values on the backend. Furthermore A/B Significance monitors are a great touch within the funnel tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
Session level analytics NEEDS to be here. If amplitude wants to be the centralized location for analytics teams, this is a must. I want to be able to understand my user acquisition funnels alongside my in-app/site analytics. "Users who come from Organic Search typically go onto consume X-amount of content and create Y-number of posts..." This is invaluable data. I don't like have to switch between GA and Amplitude to guess this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mainly focused on supporting our product team monitor new feature growth. Really enjoy AB significance monitoring with the funnel view. We've been able to quickly iterate on features that are performing poorly and turn them to success stories (such as our New Desktop Post Page).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're new to the platform -- start with your Product team and teach them how to use it to make decisions -- Others will want it. But get product EXCELLENT at using it before trying to serve ALL team members at once.

Amplitude = Efficiency!

  • August 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude makes getting super quick insights on user behaviors so easy! I can be more confident in making product decisions and prioritizing bugs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The need to involve external teams and engineering resources to develop new events and/or properties. It becomes challenging to prioritize the dev work amongst all the other features we are working on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Making product decisions and reviewing user behaviors.
