Great tool in the right hands

  • March 04, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the visual tagger feature of the tool - which allows non-devs to create events, goals, etc. This has been a godsend for companies with crappy or immature websites.
What do you dislike about the product?
The limit of 50 visual tagger events is a little low and the actual tool is a bit clunky or buggy, but the output is still very worthwhile.

One limitation is the available connections - although if you have a tool like Segment or Tray.io (fancy) it shouldn't be too bad to get your events in Amplitude. Also, it is a very expensive tool.

It is also not the most intuitive tool for new users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Understanding user behaviour, UX/UI, and customer success. The tool is meant to report.

Amplitude is great for creating dashboards and visualizing activity on the website, but it does need more connectivity. Also, it is a very expensive tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
More visual tagger events.

The best analytics platform on the market

  • March 04, 2021

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude is so easy to use yet so powerful, custom events are my favourite thing. Team spaces make it really easy to work with my colleagues and collaborate on projects.

Integrates nicely with other products we use like iterable.

Really helpful support and API documentation meant I picked things up quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
As a new user not everything was clear to me straight away, had to do a lot of reading to pick things up. Some people in my organisation found it confusing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using amplitude to test various tweaks in the platform and get a sense of overall engagement with our application, realised what we needed to work on to achieve better engagement.

A great tool for product analytics—strikes right balance of power and ease of use

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it's very easy to save multiple analyses into a workspace. I look at the dashboard here everyday.

I also like the formula functionality. It's very robust and easy to use.

It's also really easy to add data to the product when you use Segment. I highly recommend that.

I also love how easy it is to edit and update your analyses.

The auto-generated retention chart is very useful, particularly for SaaS startups.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it were easier to connect events to people and then people to user journies.

You can do this, but it's not the most straightforward user experience and the capability feels limited.

I also wish that the product would display more results in the table below specific analyses. Sometimes, with a complex analysis, the table will only the top-10 results. I wish it could display all results.

I also wish there were an automated Slack integration where I could get a daily update of my workspace analysis without having to sign into the product.

I think you can do this with custom coding, but it would be great to have a feature that does this automatically.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it to track the overall product usage and retention metrics, and I use it to understand the use of specific features.

We use it to track whether or not we're on track to achieving product-market fit at our startup.

I love being able to get instant answers to almost any product usage question I have.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would use it. It's comparable to Heap, but it's more reliable and more powerful. It also has a great free plan for startups with a small to medium amount of data.

Versatile Analytical Tool

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
you can share your charts and create your own boards, as well as quickly changing the visualization way.
What do you dislike about the product?
no pop up explanations for what each label/ function means, like "unique, total, %" etc.
When a day isn't finished, the data isn't added to the weekly/monthly total.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
DAU, Revenue, engagements etc.

Great for Product Growth

  • March 04, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Really enjoy the easy ability to read and create graphs. Enjoy the ability to dashboard and read the data. The ease of selecting my logged events and being able to customize my product decisions is a great bonus. This was previously not as easy to do for me.

Gives me a good insight into the product data and make the next decisions going forward. Being able to have a hypothesis and receive an answer is a powerful tool in product decisions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Documentation is something not as in-depth on how to write custom classes and grouping.

Although I enjoy the customization and tooling of Amplititude, perhaps some templates and product suggestions could further enhance my product decision. If I knew that X feature or dashboard had increased or decreased, that would be a great value add to my decisions since I cannot spend all my hours on the dashboard. This would be great to have,

Reporting is not as efficient as well as the exporting on data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Growth engineering on different features. Overall product growth in terms of DAU, WAU, MAU, and retention.

Benefits include being able to see the changes daily and week on week. The visual element of the dashboards helps a lot.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use it to make product decisions. Great for logging and event hypothesis.

- How does engagement impact investments and withdrawals
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want to help your organisation with a better & effective analytical tool, then go ahead with Amplitude.

Very comfortable using and great fit to baby startups)

What do you like best about the product?
1. I like that this is for humans and really easy to make the hard job. When you spent hours in GA you can easily decide in Amplitude.
2. Also this is extremely cheaper when Mixpannel which I used before on previous working place.
3. And much easier for our junior products than google analytics. So that's extremely saved time to deep dive for new colleagues and help don't spend a time of analyst for easy tasks. Our product or I as a CEO can easily and fast check any hypothesis. So that helps us as a team move and reach our goals faster. That's incredible!
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few problems we met during our work with this system:
1. You can't download data by different types of data and this is a big problem when you a trying to work with cohort analytic and match data from analytics with data from any other palace (CRM, etc.).
2. There is no SDK for Nodejs. So you can't just send events from a server(.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are an early-stage startup and amplitude our magic wand for a fast experimenting process. For example, sometimes I need to make product research and we make this using amplitude because we are gathering user's answers there and don't need to use any other tools.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Very nice for early-stage but when you reach a big amount of session you should pay a big sum at once. Be careful with it.

Amplitude - the tool that finally answers the time on site question for our SaaS product

  • March 04, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We have been using the free tier of Amplitude for a very basic integration with collecting data for pageview events on our marketing site for the past year. About a month ago, we decided to start sending in our actual user data, to see what more insights we might gain over the other BI tools we were currently using.
The best 5 minute fix ever, was that with our customer session data going to amplitude, we finally have a complete picture for how many sessions users have per day, and how long those sessions last. This is something that none of the other BI tools we user can provide, and due to the nature of our app, we were unable to calculate ourselves.
What do you dislike about the product?
The free version of Amplitude can get you pretty far. You can learn a lot about your users, and you have 10 million events per month you can record. We happen to be right at that 10 million limit, and in fact had to turn off a few of our more verbose events to keep us under the threshold. I would like to see a higher limit to the event count.
A few of the best tools are of course locked behind the paid version. We would really like to use these tools, but the cost to jump from the free tier, to the lowest paid tier, is more than 6x what we are paying for our existing BI tools. For us we cannot make the case that the value is there, without knowing that we would get a fair ROI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All BI tools have their corner cases where you just cannot see what you are looking for. Sometimes it is the way reports are formatted, sometimes it is the way that you can query the data. Amplitude gives us another angle to get at some of the questions in a different way, that we were not getting from our other tools.

One feature that I find very useful is the ability to take multiple events that we already have, and create a custom event based on any of them.
For instance during signup, the user has a chance to make several different choices on how to set up their account. Sometimes we would like to see just one metric for if they chose any of a particular path. Instead of trying to query each path individually, we can take multiple events, and combine them into a new single event. Then we can look and see how many users did the overall event, as opposed to those who did not, and then break that event down further into its own sub events that we already had available.

I also like the ability to click on just about any point on any chart, and see the users who are in that data set, view their first 5 actions since their session start, and dive into each of them.

Something that amplitude does a little better than other tools I have used, is in mapping users across devices. Each device that the user is on gets its own device ID, and we noted that even when hot swapping devices (handing it off to another person to use) that Amplitude was able to correctly track when one user stopped using the device, and anther user signed in to use our app. We have not seen any cases where users were merged into the same account because of device sharing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are on the fence at all, you have nothing to lose by trying out the free version. There is a world of great data that you can get to this way. The paid part of the app feels like it would be a great addition, and they give you the ability to try that part out with their very detailed demo data set. But nothing really tells you if you are going to get that same level out of your own data.
For free though, give it a try.
