Elastically scale your DW in the cloud the way it should be!
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to dynamically provision cpu for the largest workloads and draw back down when unneeded for cost efficiency.
What do you dislike about the product?
Costs are sometimes a bit unpredictable...need to keep a watch on it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Near realtime analytics at scale for IoT end users.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
test drive it and make sure you keep a watch on the cpu meter.
Snowflake allows for simple access to data integrating with AWS and downstream tools easily
What do you like best about the product?
Web browser is great to use and easy to pull up
What do you dislike about the product?
downloading data from web ui could be easier
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SQL database access in cloud
Easy, fast and cost efficient
What do you like best about the product?
Snowflake is super easy to get up and running. The auto-suspend functionality is saving us thousands of dollars per month over our previous data warehouse solution.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be nice if Snowflake offered service in the us-east-2 (ohio)region where the rest of our app is located.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were looking for a new data store to power analytics and customer reporting needs. We previously used a mix of MySQL and RedShift, which were more expensive and took more expertise to optimize.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try, it is very easy to get your data into and get value out of it. The Snowflake experts have been awesome partners.
Fastest data management platform
What do you like best about the product?
It's remarkably fast to traverse billions of rows of data sitting in storage with multiple users through their provisioned warehouses.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's no GeoJSON support yet, which makes working with location data harder than it needs to be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've reduced data warehousing costs by about 40% while boosting our processing speed up at least 200% - and our post-setup maintenance time is sitting at around 5% of what it once was.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do it.
Very fast data warehouse
What do you like best about the product?
The speed of queries processing. We were able to speed up some queries from 15 minutes to 15 seconds. We didn't believe how fast it was when we started. It literally saved the business.
What do you dislike about the product?
Outages. Also pretty rigid schema with 50 threads per warehouse. So long running queries and maintenance queries are capable of putting it in waiting mode quite a bit.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We store a huge amount of live data from customers - we track web performance. To analyze this data the speed of snowflake is absolutely a life saver.
Fast and scalable
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to spin up larger computes (or as they call warehouses) is amazing for the large ETL tasks. The semi-structured data support with JSON columns and querying directly into them is a true godsend.
What do you dislike about the product?
Dislike the need to keep shutting down the servers and not being able to have it up 24/7 with reasonable costs. This means a lot of conscious effort needs to go into batching up loads to Snowflake and prevents the data warehouse from having any quick intraday usability.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Snowflake is our new centralized data warehouse that everything pipes into. We have clickstream data for product analytics coming in from Snowplow. We also have Fivetran running on many source datasets to replicate our sales and user accounts data sets into Snowflake regularly. Snowflake is the backbone for all business analytics, product analytics, and data science development models. We may not necessarily use it to build real-time data science models, but it is a good start.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you don't need any near real-time querying of data, Snowflake's pricing model works out well. If you just need to run it every once in a while to do some ETL jobs and then have a caching server that can do the rest of your ad-hoc queries, it is great.
Great Software
What do you like best about the product?
I like the vast amount of connectors and also their support is very fast.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have not found anything I dislike at this moment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to now load data from a variety of sources into one repository that drives all of our BI and reporting needs.
Great cloud data warehouse solution
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to set up and it is very flexible with data. You can store anything.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes refresh failes, although there are ways to control it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data processing and data storage, we were using excel spreadsheets for everything, and snowflake changed our luves, now we can even process big amounts of data in seconds.
Unlike any other database
What do you like best about the product?
The features which are utterly unique, like time travel, zero copy cloning and separate costs for storage and compute. Snowflake is especially controllable - I can create data warehouses for specific purposes and groups of users or processes, and determine when they're available - all on the basis that the cost relates to the value.
What do you dislike about the product?
Snowflake is still new. There are some features which would be useful around metadata management for data analysts, and other functions which other databases have. But I'm sure these are on the roadmap and will come in time - probably sooner than I expect!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
To become more customer centric, to improve the efficiency of business operations, and to make it easier to comply with regulations. All of these can be achieved more effectively, faster and at a cost that more directly reflects the benefits achieved, than with other databases I've come to know.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You must take a look at Snowflake. It represents a massive and significant step-change in what's otherwise been a very staid area of computing.
great product
What do you like best about the product?
The performance is incredible. Queries that took hours to run on MySQL run in seconds.
What do you dislike about the product?
The online interface is clunky. Having a desktop app would be ideal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're moving over long running batch processes that used to run on MySQL. The run-time has been improved from hours to minutes.
