Simply Stated Amazing Cloud Database
What do you like best about the product?
The title of the review says it all. Have been doing Data Management stuff for 26 years now, and Databases are at the heart of it. Nothing is like Snowflake!!!
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing so far. Still in implementation phase and POC has completed. The experience so far has been great.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Multiple Data Management solutions.
Performant, easy-to-use and TRULY cloud
What do you like best about the product?
We've only been using Snowflake for a couple of months, but have been extremely pleased with the performance and usability of the system. We migrated from Redshift and immediately began to see benefits to both performance and cost - the same queries were running in less time on less resources.
What do you dislike about the product?
As of right now, the main problem with Snowflake has been the ramp to get started. There's not that many resources available for how to properly move over from Redshift/Tableau to using Snowflake and Tableau together. There were some hiccups related to the way in which Tableau reads the column names which come out of Snowflake versus how the column names are read out of Redshift.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Snowflake has been a future-proofing move for us, but we have seen benefits to both cost and performance very quickly. Overall, we are really pleased and excited to continuing to develop with the platform and seeing what it is capable of.
Snowflake Is and Excellent tool
What do you like best about the product?
The biggest benefit to using snowflake for us has been the ease of use when it comes to data management and tool interaction. When we migrated from Redshift we also saw a huge increase in performance due to the improvement in the way that concurrency impacted our looker instance. I highly recommend!
The administration tooling/UI in snowflake is amazing. I don't need to have highly trained database admins handling everything. Its easy to understand and work with functionally makes it much more accessible to less technically skilled individuals.

What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest issue we are facing now is implementing snowpipe. Some of the problems has been due to the lack of documentation on how errors are handled.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem that we have successfully tackled has been increased number of users we can have using Looker, due to the concurrency increase.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Leverage the admin tooling and UI, you can do some great things with it that other tools cannot match.
If you are using Looker, leverage multiple connections(use multiple models) to separate out usage across different warehouses, get the most value from different sized warehouses to the types of BI work being done.

Game changer in the Date Warehouse space
What do you like best about the product?
Cutting edge DW with ability to handle unstructured data. Splitting compute vs. storage is genius.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes being on the cutting edge has some drawbacks in terms of bugs, but that's part of the fun.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Handling unstructured data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just do it! Seriously it's wayyy better than Azure and AWS
The age of hadoop and redshift is dead, we've been using it for 4 years and never looked back.
What do you like best about the product?
It just works, seriously. We love the support, have had almost issues with it. The SQL dialect is pretty standard, few small quirks, but it's worth taking the time to convert your existing queries to it.
What do you dislike about the product?
That it didn't come out sooner. The one thing is that UI is a little buggy sometimes but honestly we use various SQL IDE's like Datagrip so it's not an issue for us.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data management, analytics, and machine learning problems.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just do it.
It just works
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use of the platform and the lack of need for maintenance
What do you dislike about the product?
There is really nothing that I dislike
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Replacing out dated and / or slow systems that didn't work well.
Enabling analytics and data science to perform at scale
What do you like best about the product?
Snowflakes proprietary 3 tiered architecture is enabling analytics and data science at a scale previously difficult to accomplish. My clients need instant data, real-time reporting and the flexibility to blow things up into enterprise solutions without the legacy monolithic burdens that come from traditional alternative technology stacks. Looking forward to the evolution of this already fantastic solution!
What do you dislike about the product?
I'd like to see more product development on the wed based client for end user local file data upload. A lot of clients today aren't necessarily as technical as others and are certainly not DBAs with the skills necessary to fully exploit the power of the platform. The best client relationships come from working within an organization in the small business units that have to self-service independent from enterprise resources, we need to further enable them to succeed!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analytics, data science, machine learning, data sharing at scale.
Data Warehouse Modernization
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to take several approaches in our data warehouse modernization journey - ease of lift and shift vs total refactoring. We can enable our customers at the speed of our data without the worry of replatforming to newer on prem infrastructure.
What do you dislike about the product?
Need a stronger set of capabilities to enable migration of large data sets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ease of scale to respond to heavy on demand workloads.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a journey, but well worth the patience to modernize.
A great, scaleable database
What do you like best about the product?
Our organization does not have a constant load on the database. With most solutions, this means that we normally need under powered hardware to save money, or over-sized servers to meet our peak load times. Snowflake's auto scaling and multi-cluster support have been extremely helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
The federated login and duo support is buggy at best. We've enforced duo login for our ACCOUNTADMIN roles, but that makes dealing with most IDEs and Tableau a nightmare since they don't support the option to use private keys.
Additionally, the role based security is very hard to manage. We have 80 permission levels spread across 7 data domains. Since a user isn't able to utilize more than one role at a time, we have to then create user specific roles that inherit just their permissions. I would much rather simply assign roles to users and skip the role setting during login.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our biggest problems have been lack of horsepower on our servers. Snowflake has allowed us to scale our infrastructure in a much more cost effective way.
What a Database Should Be.
What do you like best about the product?
The separation of storage and compute can not be understated. It is exceptionally easy to get started and the browser based UI make development easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have yet to find a hard dislike. The IDE in browser could provide better autocomplete features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Moving from AWS Glue and Redshift, to snowflake we save a significant amount of $.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Within one day we were able to fully build our proof of concept with snowflakes trial account. Utilize the time to populate with your own data, and explore "Snowpipe".
