Reliable Base for Pentesting with Strong Community Support

  • December 14, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how Ubuntu provides a stable and secure base OS for pentesting, allowing me to run and manage multiple security tools without crashes or compatibility issues. It offers strong community support, good hardware compatibility, and regular security updates, making it reliable for everyday use as well as technical work. The package management is simple and efficient, which makes installing and maintaining tools easy. I appreciate its flexibility and easy customization for different assessments, and how it integrates well with common pentesting tools and workflows. Most security tools and frameworks run smoothly on Ubuntu, and dependency management is straightforward. It works well with virtual machines, Docker, and containers, which is helpful for isolating testing environments. The stability during long testing sessions is a big plus, and the ease of resolving issues quickly due to strong community support is invaluable.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some things that could be improved in Ubuntu include occasional driver issues, especially with Wi-Fi or graphics on certain hardware. A few pentesting tools require manual configuration or work better on more security-focused distributions. Also, some proprietary software and drivers have limited support, and major version upgrades can sometimes cause minor compatibility issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu solves several practical problems for me in pentesting by providing a stable and secure OS for running multiple tools without crashes. It ensures smooth framework compatibility, simplifies environment customization, supports tool isolation, and offers regular updates and strong community support, reducing friction in testing and analysis.

Ubuntu: Fast, Clean, and Developer-Friendly

  • December 12, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I mostly use Ubuntu for my coding stuff and small projects, because it's clean, fast, and doesn't get in the way. It’s great for development and running tools smoothly. I like that Ubuntu is super clean and straightforward, with no complications and no heavy UI, just simple and smooth. Everything feels organized and updates don’t break stuff, and the terminal is powerful. It gives me a 'plug in and work' vibe, which I really like. I also like how lightweight it feels even on older systems. Apps install super quick, and most tools just work without extra setup. The customization is nice too—I can tweak things the way I want. Overall, it feels stable and reliable, and doesn’t disturb me when I’m working. It blends well with dev tools like VSCode, Git, Docker, and Android Studio, and I also use it for running local servers and small scripts. The initial setup was pretty easy with a straightforward installer, and most things worked out of the box, so it felt smooth and beginner-friendly. It's fast, clean, and great for dev work.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, the only thing that bugs me sometimes is the software support. Some apps don’t have a native Linux version, so I need to find alternatives or use workarounds. Also a few drivers, especially for Wi-Fi or graphics, can act weird after updates. Yeah, sometimes after an update the Wi-Fi might randomly drop or the graphics feel a bit off, like screen tearing or low brightness control. It doesn’t happen always but when it does, it’s annoying.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Ubuntu for coding and projects because it's clean and fast. It solves slow, laggy issues, preventing crashes and keeping things smooth. It handles dev work efficiently, supports tools like VSCode, Docker, and provides a stable, straightforward environment without any complexity.

Reliable and free - perfect for development

  • December 12, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The package manager (apt) makes installing software straightforward, and the community support is solid. It runs well on older hardware, and the LTS releases give me stability without constant updates. I also like that it's free and doesn't push ads or telemetry like some other OSes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some hardware drivers can be tricky, especially for newer laptops with proprietary components. The initial setup for things like NVIDIA graphics or certain Wi‑Fi cards sometimes requires extra steps. Also, while the UI has improved, it can feel a bit clunky compared to macOS or Windows for some tasks, and there's still a learning curve if you're coming from those systems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It gives me a stable, cost-effective OS for development work. I can run Docker containers and manage multiple projects without the overhead of Windows or the cost of macOS. On my home server, it handles file sharing and backups reliably without licensing fees. It's also great for learning Linux and system administration skills that are useful in my career.

What do you like best about the product?
User friendly interface - very intuitive. easy for me to script. simple shell but powerful. not resource intensive and great compatibility with multiple vendors and devs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some GPU driver workloads are problematic. Setting up Hyper-V barebones was a little issue getting Nic and drivers running at first. Otherwise not too bad OS. No native m365 package for Linux but that is common with all flavors and more a Microsoft restriction.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm running a few N8N instances in the containers and using the webserver and web hook integration to facilitate reverse proxy and SSL signing.

Highly Customizable, Ideal for Developers

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Ubuntu is open source and customizable, which means I can edit the system and add services easily. It's helpful that I can connect extra services to the system without needing to download or install an additional package, plus, I can access and understand any part of it when searching. For example, it's easy for me to change the right-click menu using AI assistance and add services to it. I also appreciate that Ubuntu is getting more support and compatibility with different software and vendors around the world. Setting it up was very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
I struggle to get support for all the programs and sometimes I find only a Windows version of the package I am looking for but there is always an alternative.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I find Ubuntu open source and customizable, which lets me edit the system and add services easily. It gets more support and compatibility with different software and vendors.

Efficient Coding Environment, Needs Better GUI Compatibility

  • December 10, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like using Ubuntu for my software development work, especially with Python. The ease of use of the terminal and the inbuilt Linux tools are a big help. I find the access to software tools and packages very convenient since I can use various package managers to install applications easily, without needing to go to websites and manually download and install packages. The initial setup of Ubuntu was very easy and fun. Overall, I switched to Ubuntu because it provides an easier environment for software development compared to Windows.
What do you dislike about the product?
Various GUI applications do not have compatibility with Ubuntu, which can be improved. More applications should build Linux and Ubuntu oriented applications instead of porting them to Ubuntu.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu helps with the ease of use of the terminal and inbuilt Linux tools. Access to software tools and packages is simplified with various package managers, avoiding manual downloads and installations.

Flexible and User-Friendly for Cybersecurity Tasks

  • December 09, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like Ubuntu's interface and its ability to run on sandbox. The sandbox feature makes it easier to run Ubuntu without needing to install the entire OS on my machine. It's also a great Linux alternative that is better for daily use and more flexible. The initial setup is self-explanatory, which is really convenient.
What do you dislike about the product?
Ubuntu is not heavily used unless it is for tech or cybersecurity, making it pretty unique on its own.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu makes it easier to find vulnerabilities and strengthen networks. The sandbox feature lets me run Ubuntu without a full install. It's a great Linux alternative, better for daily use, and more flexible than Kali Linux.
