What is most valuable?

Ubuntu Linux is a convenient solution. I use it for file servers and web servers. I also use Linux for training purposes.

Managing tasks and troubleshooting errors is straightforward thanks to its user-friendly interface and comprehensive error alerting system

  • January 02, 2024
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

We use Ubuntu Linux to manage various services, such as installing software like Python, PHP, and other server-side applications. Additionally, we install .NET and web applications using PHP, NGINX, and MySQL.

What is most valuable?

Ubuntu Linux stands out compared to others in terms of performance. Its smooth operation and ease of use make it a preferred choice for many users. With Ubuntu, managing tasks and troubleshooting errors is straightforward thanks to its user-friendly interface and comprehensive error alerting system. Ubuntu is an open-source platform that allows easy access to error logs, making identifying and addressing issues simple.

What needs improvement?

Ubuntu Linux is good for one to two years. We can easily identify the line numbers and everything we could be able to see. Additionally, we have stable and standard paths for root directories, so we can easily remember those folder setups.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Ubuntu Linux for six years. We are using the V18.04 and V20.04 of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't experienced any downtime till today. I rate the solution's stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. We are using ECS for our backend, running ECS instances exclusively. Depending on the task requirements, we can easily scale up without limitations.
Around 15k users are using this solution. It is on autoscaling. We are maintaining load balancer. Whenever it writes automatically, it will spin up additional added sources.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple and takes 10-15 minutes to complete. We can do it by simple commands. When writing a simple ML file, we can employ uncomplicated syntax. With Docker Hub, we can readily retrieve this operating system, and through simple commands, installation can be automated, upgrading to the latest version seamlessly.

What about the implementation team?

The solution is in the dedicated hosting. We spin up training instances by writing simple comments.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is free of cost.

What other advice do I have?

Typically, we disable automatic updates for production services. However, we enable auto-updates on our side in development environments. Even for free servers, we do not allow automatic upgrades for any new changes. This is because it may take some time to reflect, and sometimes the server fails health checks.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

The tool's deployment is simple but it needs to show battery percentage at the screen top

  • January 02, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I was given a laptop with a dead SSD, so I replaced it. However, I couldn't reinstall Windows because I didn't have the original license key. I opted for Ubuntu Linux, which worked.

What is most valuable?

The tool is stable. It can automate the updates like Microsoft.

What needs improvement?

Ubuntu Linux needs to improve its stability. I would like it to show the battery percentage at the screen top.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Ubuntu Linux's stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

I have never used technical support yet.

How was the initial setup?

Ubuntu Linux's deployment is very simple and takes a day to complete. You need to reboot it regularly. To do the deployment, you need to download and launch it.

What about the implementation team?

I did the deployment myself.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Ubuntu Linux a nine out of ten. My organization uses Windows, but its employees use Ubuntu Linux on their personal machines. It shows that Ubuntu Linux is undoubtedly better.

The Best Linux Distribution I ever saw

  • December 31, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is a Linux distribution just like many others, it comes with utilites and apps out of the box, it feels like having any normal operating system, it's open-source, completely free to use, and it's so so lightweight, so it could be a great solution for any old laptop you got at home.
What do you dislike about the product?
Like, Ubuntu is great and I seriously have think nothing is bad about it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I installed Ubuntu on my Windows laptop as Windows isn't the right operating system for advanced developers, WSL just slows your PC down and having a Linux running normally is way better.

Still the most balanced Linux Distro to date

  • December 24, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Like always, Ubuntu strikes a nice balance between being user friendly while maintaining the complex linux ecosystem.
Ubuntu 22.04 is the biggest update I've seen in recent years, and brings some nice features to the table, like the revamped screenshot and recording system. The UI is the best it's ever been, it almost feels like Windows. And I don't have to go through any hassle to install GPU driver updates, the software center handles it perfectly. I also love being able to switch workspaces.
It comes with python pre-installed and the apt package manager does a good job at sticking with latest stable release. Creating and managing python interpreters, packages and virtual environments is so quick, easy and portable. It makes it so convenient for me as an AI engineer myself that uses python exclusively
What do you dislike about the product?
Battery drain is a concern when you're using a laptop. There were occasional kernel crashes when under heavy RAM usage, although this could be related to the specs I were using.
Certain UI customizations are locked until you install gnome tweaks, I feel like its completely unnecessary. Also Gnome itself being a snap package doesn't fill me with confidence. I hope they get rid of the snap store for the next release and move to synaptic or flatpak
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've been using the Ubuntu desktop LTS version exclusively for the last 2 years for all academic tasks and split the professional work with a MacOS. It was my first linux distro and I never felt like switching to a different one. It helped me get familiar with the linux environment and eventually deploy my own projects to linux cloud environements. And I can work in confidence, knowing no malware can effect my computer. In short, it's my favorite operating system, except for gaming

Ubuntu is run on all major architectures . And it is a cost effective server solution.

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu's Software Center simplifies software installation, and the system benefits from a large community, ensuring ample support and resources.
What do you dislike about the product?
This could be a drawback for those who want immediate access to the newest features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
