it's an opensource distributed SQL query engine!!
What do you like best about the product?
we can run analytical query with the data sources of all size and all types , so we can use it in highly scale able systems for analytics , it's easy to integrate it with your older databases , it also provides support for java language , it provides type-1 driver for jdbc(java database connectivity) too.
What do you dislike about the product?
it provides type-1 driver of jdbc which very slow in performance, Quality Of support is not good , pricing is very high!!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
we use it with java for analytical queries with different kind of data sources Amazon S3 , MySQL etc.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just try get your hands dirty on it , it's a highly scale able and easy to use Query engine!!

String to date conversions can be improved in teradata

Number of rows in table with 8 billions rows in TD is done in just few seconds with low_profile and low_account rights.

Connect to multiple databases and the answerset output

No SQL so not as fluent as Microsoft Sql

Just querying data and joining across multiple database makes it easier to get solid datasets
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great tool to use for Big Data. The Answerset is very helpful for formatting your data before exporting to excel or similar tool. However it take some time to get familiar with if you are used to other tools such as Sql Server Management Studio.

The analytics power of the engine is impressive. It gives a lit of flexibility to the end user and the processing us lightning fast. Really good interface too.

Would have appreciated more documentation and tutoring support

Learn the language first. Sometimes there are other ways to run it faster.

Terada handles huge volume of data efficiently, the retrieval rate is faster and performance is very good.

Teradata does not have option to create materialized views

Teradata is used to store historical data in data warehouse and we build analytical reports and dashboards on top of it for management
