The NIST compliance framework, developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is a set of guidelines, standards, and best practices that organizations can follow to manage and mitigate cybersecurity risks. It is widely recognized as a best practice for organizations looking to enhance their cybersecurity posture. Many government agencies, contractors, and businesses in highly-regulated industries such as healthcare and finance have adopted the NIST framework as a way to manage and mitigate cybersecurity risks. Additionally, organizations that process, store, or transmit sensitive data can benefit from using the NIST framework to implement appropriate security controls and safeguard against data breaches. The NIST framework can be used as a roadmap for developing and improving cybersecurity programs and can help organizations achieve compliance with various cybersecurity regulations and standards.

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for each running instance of NIST Compliant Rocky Linux 9. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, you pick the AWS EC2 instance type that fits your workload, and the software rate is tied to that instance size. Options span hundreds of instance types, from small general-purpose machines to large compute, memory, storage, and GPU instances. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates than smaller ones. You only pay while an instance runs, so costs scale with how many instances you use and how long they run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What exactly does the hourly software rate cover for each instance type?
The rate covers the NIST-hardened Rocky Linux 9 software license for one running EC2 instance of the selected type. It applies to a virtual machine configured with industry hardening frameworks such as STIG and NIST. The rate scales with the instance size you choose.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running time only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software rate. You resume charges when the instance runs again. Note that underlying AWS storage fees may still apply separately for stopped instances.
How does my bill change if I run several instance types at once?
Each running instance bills independently at the hourly rate tied to its own instance type. The charges add together across all your active instances. Larger instance types carry higher hourly rates, so your total depends on which types you run and how long each runs.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
The image is pre-configured with built-in NIST compliance. However, it's important to note that utilizing a hardened system might require some adjustment, as the heightened security measures may limit certain functionalities or necessitate extra steps for specific tasks. In the event of any issues, please contact the software provider for support.
