    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Version release notes

With this release, we have upgraded our SoftEther VPN AMI from Amazon Linux 2 to Amazon Linux 2023 to ensure long-term support, improved security, and access to the latest features and performance enhancements provided by AWS. Amazon Linux 2023 is designed to deliver a more stable and secure platform for production workloads, aligning with modern cloud best practices.

In addition to the OS upgrade, this version introduces significant automation and usability improvements:

Fully Automated Configuration: Most of the VPN setup and server configuration is now handled automatically at launch, reducing manual steps and minimizing user error. Simplified Setup Experience: Users can quickly set the admin password, create VPN users, and configure the IPSec pre-shared key (PSK) using intuitive command-line scripts. Improved Security Defaults: The new release ensures secure configurations out of the box, including encrypted EBS volumes and up-to-date package management. Faster Time to Deploy: The overall process from EC2 launch to a working VPN server is now faster and easier than ever before.

These enhancements are aimed at making remote access VPN deployment on AWS as simple, secure, and reliable as possible.
