Apache NiFi: Open Source Data Flow Automation on AWS
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you run Apache NiFi on. The software itself is open source and free; these dimensions cover the compute you choose. Options span general-purpose (m-series and t-series) and compute-optimized (c-series) families, plus burstable small and medium t-series sizes. Larger instance families give more resources for heavier data flows, while smaller t-series options suit lighter workloads. The vendor recommends t3.medium as a baseline. Pricing scales with the instance you pick, so you match cost to the processing capacity your pipelines need. Billing runs hourly with no long-term commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what is not included in that charge?
Each hourly unit covers one running EC2 instance of the type you pick, preloaded with Apache NiFi. The software is open source and free. You pay for the compute plus optional Meetrix support. Underlying AWS costs like EBS storage and data transfer are billed separately by AWS.
Am I charged the hourly rate when I stop the instance?
Software charges apply only while the instance runs. If you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. You can restart it later from the EC2 console. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for the attached volume, billed by AWS separately.
How do I move to a different instance size if my data flows grow?
Each instance type is a separate hourly dimension you select at launch. To change size, you back up server data, remove the existing deployment, then relaunch on a different instance type. Your hourly cost then follows the new instance you pick. The vendor suggests t3.medium as a starting point.

Apache NiFi is a secure and scalable data flow automation platform. This CloudFormation template provisions an EC2-based deployment with IAM roles, Route 53 integration, and SSL support for managing real-time data pipelines across distributed systems.
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
