The dimensions map to AWS Graviton-based instance sizes across several families: general purpose (m-series, a1, t4g), compute optimized (c-series), memory optimized (r-series, x-series), and storage or I/O focused (i-series, im4gn, is4gen). Sizes range from nano and micro up to 48xlarge and bare-metal options. Your rate scales with the instance's size and family, so heavier compute, memory, or storage capacity carries a higher hourly charge. You pay only for the hours each instance runs.

What does one hourly unit cover, and what does the software charge include beyond the operating system?
One unit is one running arm64 instance of the size you pick, billed per hour. The charge covers the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating system with PostgreSQL. Live patching, which applies security fixes without rebooting, is included across editions. AWS compute and storage fees are billed separately.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running hours only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Underlying AWS storage tied to the instance may still incur separate AWS charges, but the SUSE and PostgreSQL software billing counts active running time.
If I move a workload to a bigger instance size, how does my hourly cost change?
Your rate follows the instance family and size you run. Switching from a smaller size to a larger one, such as large up to 48xlarge, raises the hourly software charge. Changes take effect when you launch the new instance. You stop paying the old rate once that instance stops.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Use the image to start an instance of your choice in Amazon EC2. Once the instance is running connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client as 'ec2-user' and the configured SSH key. You may connect the instance to the SUSE Customer Center (SCC) or the region local SUSE operated update infrastructure using your existing SUSE registration key. Use 'SUSEConnect -r' or 'registercloudguest -r', respectively to enable your instance to receive maintenance updates and security fixes.
