You pay by the hour for a hardened Ubuntu 22.04 server pre-configured to the DISA STIG Advanced benchmark. Pricing scales with the EC2 instance type you choose, not by feature tiers. The 26 options map to standard AWS instance families: burstable t2 and t3 sizes for light or variable workloads, compute-focused c5a, general-purpose m5a, memory-focused r5a, and GPU-backed g3 and p3 for graphics or accelerated tasks. Larger instances within each family carry higher hourly rates. Software charges apply on top of standard AWS infrastructure costs and stop when you stop the instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billing unit cover for this product?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you pick, billed per hour. The software charge covers the hardened Ubuntu 22.04 image configured to the DISA STIG Advanced benchmark on that instance. Each instance you launch meters its own hours separately.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges apply only while the instance runs. Stopping the instance stops the hourly software meter. Underlying AWS costs, such as storage for a stopped instance, may still apply separately. Restarting the instance resumes the software charge.
Which factor drives my hourly cost across the instance options?
The instance type you select drives cost. All options run the same hardened image, so the software layer is consistent. Rates rise with instance size and family. Burstable t2 and t3 sizes sit lower; GPU-backed g3 and p3 and larger compute or memory sizes sit higher.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
