Dimensions summary
This listing has no software license fee. You pay only for the AWS EC2 instance you run it on, billed per hour. Each dimension names a specific EC2 instance type, from small shared instances like t2.nano and t3.micro up to memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-optimized families and bare-metal machines. Your hourly rate scales with the instance size and family you choose. Larger instances cost more per hour because they provide more CPU, memory, or storage. Pick the instance that matches your email server's expected user count and storage needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the EC2 instance you run the email server on. The software itself carries no license fee. Outbound email delivery through an SMTP relay service is separate and billed by that provider. Domain DNS setup and storage beyond the instance are also outside this hourly charge.
Hourly charges apply only while the EC2 instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops accruing hourly software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume. The meter tracks running time, so stopping the instance during idle periods reduces cost.
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type with fixed CPU, memory, and storage. More users and more mailbox storage need a larger instance. The plan supports many users per instance, each with mailbox storage. Match the instance size to your expected user count and storage needs.

- SSH into VM using ubuntu as the username
- Invoke the selfhostedemailserver binary with the command "selfhostedemailserver"
- This should install postfix and bsd-mailx
- This is already sufficient to test the deliverability of the email. How's how to test deliverability 4a. visit mail-tester.com 4b. mail-tester.com will generate a random email address. This random email is just for you. mail-tester.com is expecting you to send a test email to that email. It will report on the deliverability of that email you sent. 4c. Use mailx to send a test email. Here's an example of mailx: echo "hello world" | mailx -r <root@bughousechessonline.com> -s "hello world" <hello@programmerhat.com>
