You pay by the hour for this hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5 machine image. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each rate is tied to a specific AWS EC2 instance type you choose to run. The many options map to instance families built for different workloads, such as general purpose, compute, memory, storage, and accelerated computing. Larger instance sizes within a family carry higher hourly rates, since they provide more compute and memory. Your total cost depends on which instance type you select and how many hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for this hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5 image?
One unit is one hour that a single EC2 instance runs this machine image. The rate matches the instance type you launch. You pay for each hour the instance is running. Running several instances bills each one separately for its own hours.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue this hourly charge. You resume charges when you start the instance again. Note that AWS may still bill separately for attached storage while an instance sits stopped.
Do I commit upfront, or can I pay only for what I use?
Billing is usage-based with no upfront commitment. You pay by the hour for the instance type you run and stop paying the software rate when you stop the instance. This suits variable workloads where run time changes from day to day.
