Each hourly rate covers one running EC2 instance of the matching type with the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16 hardened image installed. The image ships with security configurations aligned to DISA STIG, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and NIST frameworks at baseline and advanced hardening levels. AWS compute, storage, and data transfer are billed separately by AWS.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software fee meters running hours only. A stopped or fully powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still owe AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is an AWS infrastructure charge, not the software license fee.
If I move to a larger or different instance type, how does my bill change?
Your software rate follows whichever instance type you run at the time. Switching to a different type or size changes the per-hour rate to that dimension's rate automatically. There is no separate upgrade step. You pay the new rate for hours on the new instance and the old rate for prior hours.

Allow inbound SSH access in your security group (TCP port 22)
To connect to your instance using the Amazon EC2 console:
Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/.
In the navigation pane, choose Instances.
Select the instance and choose Connect.
Choose the EC2 Instance Connect tab.
For Connection type, choose Connect using EC2 Instance Connect.
Access the ec2 with the default username: "ec2-user"
