What exactly does one hour of billing cover on a chosen instance type?
One billable hour covers running the security-hardened SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 image on one instance of the type you select. The rate is tied to that specific instance's size and family. Each running instance meters its own hours. Running two instances bills both separately.
Does the hourly rate change if I switch to a different instance type?
Yes. Each instance type has its own hourly rate. If you launch a different type, that type's rate applies for the hours it runs. Switching to a larger compute, memory, storage, or GPU instance raises the per-hour cost. There is no automatic upgrade; you choose the instance at launch.
