This listing is free software, so Canonical charges nothing for the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS image itself. Each dimension maps to a specific Arm-based EC2 instance type billed by the hour. You pick the instance family and size that fits your Kubernetes worker nodes, from small shared types up to large metal servers. Pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage of the instance you select. Memory-focused, compute-focused, storage-focused, and general-purpose families are all listed. You pay only for the hours each instance runs, with no license fee for the operating system.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to for billing?
Each dimension maps to one specific Arm-based EC2 instance type running for one hour. You are charged per running instance-hour for the size and family you select, such as t4g.small or m8g.24xlarge. The count reflects how many instances of that type you run and for how long.
Am I charged for the operating system when an instance is stopped?
No. The Ubuntu 22.04 LTS image itself carries no license fee, so nothing accrues for the software. Charges track running instance-hours only. A stopped instance stops accruing hourly software charges, though underlying AWS storage fees for the instance may still apply separately.
Does cost change if I switch to a different instance family or size?
Yes. Each instance type is its own dimension with its own hourly rate. Moving from a smaller shared type to a metal or large memory-focused instance changes the hourly charge. Cost scales with the compute, memory, and storage of the type you pick. The change takes effect when you run the new type.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
