You pay by the hour for Oracle Linux 8 with vendor support, billed per running instance. Pricing is not tiered by plan. Instead, each rate maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type you choose to run. The many options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and accelerated compute families, across sizes from small to metal. Larger instances with more vCPUs and memory carry higher hourly rates. You control cost by selecting the instance size that fits your workload. Charges apply only while instances run, with no upfront commitment.

What does one hourly rate cover, and what is not included in the price?
Each rate covers Oracle Linux 8 running on one EC2 instance of the type you pick, plus vendor support for the operating system. It bills per instance-hour. The rate is the software and support charge only. Separate AWS infrastructure fees for compute, storage, and data transfer apply on top.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or idle?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue this charge. Underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume may still apply while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again. There is no upfront commitment.
How do I move to a bigger or smaller instance, and how does that change my bill?
You choose the EC2 instance type when you launch. To change size, you stop and relaunch on a different type. The hourly rate then matches the new instance. Larger instances with more vCPUs and memory bill at higher hourly rates. You pay only the rate for whatever type currently runs.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Info regarding virtual machines
The operating system does not save any sensitive information for the customers. The customer is responsible for saving any information, sensitive or not.
The data saved on the volumes is not encrypted by default.
All instance authentication must use key pair access, not password-based authentication.
AMIs does not contain passwords, authentication keys, key pairs, security keys, or other credentials.
PasswordAuthentication is set to NO in sshd_config.
The application does not make use of any encryption techniques.
