Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running instance-hours. A stopped or terminated instance does not accrue software charges. Only the hours the instance runs count toward your software cost. Note that AWS may still charge for attached storage on stopped instances, separate from this software fee.
How do I lower my hourly cost if I pick a large instance and need less capacity later?
