You pay by the hour for a preconfigured image running Apache ActiveMQ Classic on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Pricing depends only on the EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to one instance size across several families, including general-purpose M4, M5, M6, and M7 series plus burstable T2 and T3 series. Larger instances offer more compute and memory, so their hourly rate rises with capacity. Smaller burstable types suit light or intermittent workloads. You choose the instance that fits your throughput needs. Your total cost equals the hourly software rate plus the underlying AWS infrastructure charge.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually receive when I launch one of these hourly instances?
You get a preconfigured machine image with Apache ActiveMQ Classic already installed on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Each dimension corresponds to one EC2 instance type. Launching it starts a running server sized to that instance's compute and memory. The software is set up and ready to run.
Am I charged when I stop or power off the instance?
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the software charge. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes. You pay the software rate again once you restart the instance.
What makes one instance dimension cost more than another per hour?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance size across families like M4, M5, M6, M7, and burstable T2 and T3. Instances with more virtual CPUs and memory carry a higher hourly rate. You pick the size that matches your message throughput needs.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources.
