This product has charges associated with it for support, maintenance, and pre-configuration to be instantaneously deployed on AWS Marketplace with all security and enterprise standards. This Windows Server 2016 Image is packaged to leverage cost-effectiveness, scalability, and flexibility.
This Image is hardened with a base profile, suitable for use in HVM instance types only. The image contains just enough packages to run within AWS, bring up an RDP Server, and allow users to login.
Windows Server 2016 Minimal Installation is optimized for automated use at scale, with a tiny package set and minimal security cross-section.
The Minimal Server Interface is a configuration option that does not include significant aspects of the Server Graphical Shell. It enables most local GUI management tasks without requiring the Server Graphical Shell or Internet Explorer to be installed. This reduces the security and servicing footprint of the server thereby increasing safety and uptime while expanding deployment scenarios.
The Image is specially hardened for AWS Marketplace and pre-configured for fast and secure deployment.

You pay by the hour for this Windows Server 2016 Minimal Installation image, billed only for the time each instance runs. Pricing scales by the EC2 instance type you choose. Options span general-purpose M-family instances (m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5ad, m5d, m5dn, m5n) and burstable T-family instances (t2, t3, t3a). Within each family, hourly rates rise with instance size, from nano and micro up through metal. Larger sizes provide more CPU and memory, so their hourly rate is higher. Pick the instance that matches your workload; there are no tiers or upfront commitments.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get when I launch one of these hourly instances?
You get a ready-to-run Windows Server 2016 Minimal image on the EC2 instance type you select. It deploys quickly and you connect over Remote Desktop after setting a password. The instance size you pick determines the CPU and memory available for your workload.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running time by the hour, so a fully stopped instance stops accruing software charges. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for their attached volumes. You pay software charges only while the instance runs.
Does the M-family or T-family choice change how I am billed?
Billing works the same way for both families: you pay per hour the instance runs. The family and size only change the hourly rate, since larger instances carry more CPU and memory. T-family burstable instances suit lighter, variable loads; M-family general-purpose instances suit steady workloads.
