You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you run. The 14 options are not feature tiers; they are different AWS instance sizes that vary in CPU and memory. The t2 and t3 families cover general-purpose workloads from medium to 2xlarge. The t3a family adds medium and large choices. The m4 family scales from large up to 16xlarge for heavier demand. Your hourly rate rises as instance capacity increases. All options run the same OpenMRS 3 software on Ubuntu 22.04. Pick the size that matches your workload, and change it as your needs grow.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit actually pay for on this listing?
Each unit is one running hour of a single EC2 instance in the size you pick. The rate covers the OpenMRS 3 software and Ubuntu 22.04 image on that instance. Compute capacity comes from AWS. Larger instance types carry more CPU and memory, so their hourly rate is higher.
Am I charged for the software when my instance is stopped?
Hourly software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not add software hours. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume, but the software meter counts running time only.
Can I switch to a different instance size later as my clinic grows?
Yes. The 14 sizes are not locked feature tiers. You can move to a larger t2, t3, t3a, or m4 instance when your workload grows, or scale down if demand drops. Your hourly rate then matches the new size you run.
