You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10, packaged as a preconfigured AWS machine image with vendor support. Pricing is not tiered by plan. Instead, each rate maps to a specific EC2 instance type you choose. Options span general-purpose (t, m), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x, z, u), storage-heavy (d, i, h), and accelerated (g, p, inf, trn, dl, vt) families, plus bare-metal variants. Larger instances carry higher hourly software rates than smaller ones. Your total scales with the instance size you run and the hours it runs. EC2 infrastructure charges are billed separately by AWS.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly rate actually cover for a given instance type?
Each rate covers the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10 software license and vendor support for one running instance of that specific EC2 type. Rates are charged per hour the instance runs. The underlying EC2 compute, storage, and network charges come separately from AWS.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the software charge. Note that AWS may still bill separately for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is an infrastructure charge, not the software license.
What drives my total cost across these hundreds of instance-type rates?
Two things combine: the hourly rate tied to your chosen instance type, and the number of hours you run it. Bigger instances carry higher hourly software rates. Your bill is the rate multiplied by running hours, added across every instance you launch.
