The many dimensions map directly to AWS EC2 instance types, so pricing scales with the instance you choose. General-purpose (t, m), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x, z), storage (d, i, h), and accelerated (g, p, inf, trn) families are all covered. Larger sizes within a family carry higher hourly rates. You pick the instance that fits your workload and pay that instance's rate.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select. The hourly rate covers the software license for that single instance while it runs. If you launch several instances, each one meters its own rate separately, and the charges add together on your invoice.
The software charge meters only while an instance runs. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue this hourly software fee. Underlying AWS costs, such as storage for the instance volume, may still apply and are billed separately by AWS.
You pay the hourly rate tied to the specific instance type you run. Moving to a larger size within a family means a higher hourly rate. The change is not automatic; it applies only when you launch or switch to that instance type. Charges reflect the current running instance.
