Overview
Rocky Linux 10.2 with XFCE GUI Desktop provides a ready-to-use graphical workstation environment on AWS. Launch this x86_64 image on a compatible x86-64-v3 EC2 instance such as m6i.large.
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for the preconfigured desktop and remote-access software, automated instance-specific user setup, package integration, update validation, and deployment-ready configuration. The software charge covers these technical modifications and packaging.

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software support, billed on top of your normal AWS compute charges. Pricing has one dimension per EC2 instance type. Each rate maps to a specific instance size and family, including general purpose (m and t), compute (c), memory (r, x, z, u), storage (d, i), and accelerated instances (g, p, inf, trn, vt). Larger sizes within a family carry higher hourly rates. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and the hourly support charge scales with the instance you run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers support by Elm Computing for the repackaged open source image, not the operating system itself. Rocky Linux and the XFCE desktop are free open source software. You pay for the support layer on top, plus your normal AWS compute charges separately.
The support charge meters running instance-hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly support fee. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage charges for attached volumes, but those are billed by AWS, not as part of this software support rate.
Each instance type carries its own hourly support rate. Moving to a larger size within a family applies that size's rate for every running hour. The charge follows whichever instance you actually run, so switching sizes changes the rate immediately with no manual plan upgrade.

Usage instructions
Launch this x86_64 AMI on m6i.large with an EC2 key pair. Allow TCP 3389 for RDP and TCP 22 for SSH only from trusted client IP addresses.
To connect to the Linux GUI Desktop on your EC2 instance using an RDP client, use the instance public IP address as the PC name. The default username is elm, and the initial password is the EC2 instance ID, which begins with i-. Find the instance ID in the AWS Management Console under EC2 Instances. Change the password after first login. Your RDP client may show a certificate warning; verify that you are connecting to the expected instance before continuing.
