You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run MayaNAS on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size across several families, including compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r-series), general-purpose (m-series), and storage-optimized (i-series). Larger instances carry more CPU, memory, or local storage, so your hourly rate scales with the capacity you select. You choose the instance that fits your throughput and workload needs, then pay only for the hours it runs. There is no upfront commitment, and software charges bill alongside your AWS usage.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billing unit cover, and what runs on the instance I choose?
Each unit is one hour that your selected EC2 instance runs MayaNAS. The instance provides the CPU, memory, and any local storage. MayaNAS then builds ZFS storage pools directly on S3 object storage or attached EBS disks. Larger instances add cache and throughput capacity for demanding workloads.
Am I charged when the MayaNAS instance is stopped, for example a standby node?
Software charges meter running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing hourly software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for attached disks and object storage buckets while the instance is off. Only running time drives the MayaNAS hourly charge.
How do I move to a different instance type if my throughput needs change?
You pick the instance type at deployment, and your hourly rate follows that choice. To change capacity, you deploy or resize onto a different instance family or size. Compute-optimized, memory-optimized, general-purpose, and storage-optimized instances each carry their own hourly rate. There is no upfront commitment tying you to one size.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
To use MayaNAS you will need to take the following steps:
Launch the AMI and subscribe
Launch a storage optimized Instance using your key pair
To access the Web GUI from within your VPC, point a browser window to http://<instance-private-ip>:2020 and login using username admin and password as the instance ID ( value that starts with i- ). The recommended security group allows port 2020 only from the private 10.0.0.0/8 range.
To access the Web GUI from outside the VPC, open an SSH tunnel instead of
exposing port 2020 publicly:
ssh -i <your-key>.pem -L 2020:localhost:2020 ec2-user@<instance-public-ip>
Then browse to http://localhost:2020
To change the default password connect to the launched instance using SSH as user ec2-user and set the password for Web Administration Console by running
ec2-user$ sudo /opt/mayastor/web/changepass.sh
