This lightweight and secure AlmaLinux 8.10 (ARM/aarch64) image is built from the official ISO image, stripped down to include only the essential packages and required AWS software to make it integrate seamlessly into the AWS infrastructure (AWS CLI, Elastic Network Adapter & NVMe drivers). This results in a minimal image that is fast to boot, reduces storage requirements, and optimizes system responsiveness. The image is updated with the latest security patches and updates, providing protection against known vulnerabilities and ensuring the stability and reliability of your server environment. Other features: key based authentication with 'ec2-user' username, cloud-init and SELinux enabled, root login disabled, automatic root disk resize based on the instance volume configuration. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific ARM64 EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you run. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, graphics, and high-performance computing families, in sizes from nano and micro up to 16xlarge and bare metal. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or storage carry higher hourly rates. You add your separate AWS infrastructure charges to this software fee.

Each hourly unit covers the AlmaLinux 8.10 ARM64 software image and vendor support for one running instance of that specific EC2 type. You pay this software rate per running hour. Your AWS compute, storage, and network charges for the underlying instance are billed separately by AWS.
The software fee meters running hours only. When you stop or power off an instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. AWS may still bill underlying storage for attached volumes, but that is separate from this software rate. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge.

To connect to the VM:
- Use SSH to connect
- Username provisioned inside is: 'ec2-user'
- Use the SSH key provided at the launch of the instance
- Run 'sudo su -' to get a root prompt

Check the health and functionality of the virtual machine you have just launched:
- Go to your Amazon EC2 console and ensure you are in the correct region
- Select 'Instances' from the left menu and click on the newly launched instance
- Click on the 'Status and Alarms' tab at the bottom of the page to check all parameters are green
