You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you run MongoDB on Microsoft Windows Server 2022. The 12 dimensions map to different instance sizes across compute, general-purpose, and memory-optimized families. The c5 options (large, xlarge, 2xlarge) target compute needs. The m5 and m6i options (large, xlarge) cover balanced workloads. The r5 and r6i large options suit memory-heavy use. The t3 options (medium, large, xlarge) fit lighter, burstable loads. Price scales with the instance's size and capacity. You pay only while the instance runs, with no long-term commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and does the operating system license come included?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the chosen type, billed per hour. The instance comes preconfigured with MongoDB on Microsoft Windows Server 2022. Where a separate license is required, the listing notes it. You run and manage the instance within your own AWS account.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped, and is there any long-term commitment?
You pay only while the instance runs. If the instance is not running, no software charge applies. There is no long-term commitment; you subscribe for the time you need. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees, but the software meters running hours only.
If I need more capacity, do I switch instance types or scale the same one?
Each dimension bills independently by instance type and size. To get more capacity, you run a different, larger instance type rather than adding to an existing one. The hourly rate then follows that instance's size and family. You pay the rate for whichever instance type is running.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
