This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use LEMP stack with Nginx, MySQL, PHP 8.5, phpMyAdmin and Webmin. Run fast PHP websites and apps from day one, with unique passwords for every instance.

    Overview

LEMP (Linux, Nginx, MySQL and PHP) is a popular stack for fast PHP websites and applications. Nginx with PHP-FPM serves many visitors with little memory, which makes it a good fit for busy sites and small instances alike. This image gives developers, agencies and small businesses a production-ready LEMP server in minutes, so you can deploy a PHP site, a framework application such as Laravel, or a CMS without installing and wiring the stack yourself.

What is included: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Nginx, PHP 8.5 with PHP-FPM and the common extensions, MySQL 8.0, phpMyAdmin for database administration and Webmin 2.660 for server administration. A welcome page at the server's address confirms the stack is running; replace it with your own site in /var/www/html. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own MySQL root and Webmin passwords and a new phpMyAdmin secret, MySQL listens only on the server itself, and SSH accepts key-based login only.

What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Nginx, MySQL Community Edition, PHP, phpMyAdmin and Webmin are open source software under their own licences. All trademarks belong to their respective owners. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.

    Highlights

    • Ready in minutes: launch the instance and upload your PHP site to /var/www/html. Nginx, MySQL 8.0, PHP 8.5 with PHP-FPM, phpMyAdmin and Webmin are already installed and configured.
    • Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own MySQL and Webmin passwords on first boot and a new phpMyAdmin secret is generated, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
    • Fast and light: Nginx with PHP-FPM handles busy sites with little memory. Manage databases in phpMyAdmin and the server from Webmin in your browser.

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for the software, billed per running instance. Pricing scales with the EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to one instance type, grouped by family: general-purpose (m, t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x, z), storage-optimized (i, d), and accelerated or specialized families (g, p, inf, trn, f, vt, hpc). Within each family, the hourly rate rises as instance size grows, from nano and micro up through metal. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry a correspondingly higher hourly rate. You also pay AWS separately for compute and storage.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

You get a pre-built machine image with nginx 1.30.4, MySQL 9.7.2 LTS, PHP 8.5.10, phpMyAdmin and Webmin on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. The software components are open source and need no licence key. You launch it like any other image and pay AWS separately for compute and storage.
The hourly rate meters running instance-hours, so a stopped instance accrues no software charge. You still pay AWS for the attached storage volume while the instance is stopped. Charges resume once the instance runs again.
Yes. Each dimension maps to one specific EC2 instance type, so the hourly software rate is tied to the type you run. If you switch to a different instance type, billing follows the new type's rate from that point. The software itself stays the same across all types.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

Once the instance is running, enter http://<instance-public-ip> into your browser to see the welcome page. Upload your website files to /var/www/html. phpMyAdmin is at http://<instance-public-ip>/phpmyadmin; sign in with root as the username and your instance ID as the password. Webmin is on port 8000, so open http://<instance-public-ip>:8000 and sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.

Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 80 (your website and phpMyAdmin) and 8000 (Webmin). For security, allow ports 22 and 8000 only from your own IP address.

Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.

Change your passwords after the first sign-in: connect over SSH and run sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_mysql.sh for MySQL root or pass_webmin.sh for Webmin, from the same folder.

The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
