Overview
Node.js is an open source JavaScript runtime for building fast web servers, APIs and real-time apps. This image gives developers and startups a production-ready Node.js server in minutes: the runtime, a process manager, a reverse proxy, a database and a cache are already installed and connected, so you only need to deploy your code.
What is included: Node.js 24.20.0 LTS on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, PM2 running a sample app as the ubuntu user, Nginx as a reverse proxy on port 80, MySQL 8.0, Redis, phpMyAdmin for database administration and Webmin for server administration over HTTPS. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own MySQL root and Webmin passwords, a new phpMyAdmin secret and a new Webmin certificate, MySQL and Redis listen only on the server itself, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Node.js and PM2 are open source software licensed under MIT, and Nginx under BSD-2-Clause. Node.js is a trademark of the OpenJS Foundation. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.
Highlights
- Ready in minutes: launch the instance and open its public IP to see the sample app served through Nginx. Node.js 24 LTS, PM2, MySQL, Redis, phpMyAdmin and Webmin are already set up.
- Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own MySQL and Webmin passwords on first boot and a new phpMyAdmin secret is generated, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
- Production basics done for you: PM2 keeps your app running and restarts it after a reboot, Nginx sits in front as a reverse proxy, and Redis is ready for caching and sessions.

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Additional details
Usage instructions
Once the instance is running, enter http://<instance-public-ip> into your browser to see the sample app. phpMyAdmin is at http://<instance-public-ip>/phpmyadmin; sign in with root as the username and your instance ID as the password. Webmin is on port 8000 over HTTPS, so open https://<instance-public-ip>:8000, accept the browser's certificate warning and sign in with admin and your instance ID. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.
Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 80 (your app and phpMyAdmin) and 8000 (Webmin). For security, allow ports 22 and 8000 only from your own IP address.
Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.
Deploy your app: copy it to the server as the ubuntu user, start it with pm2 start, then run pm2 save so it comes back after a reboot. Change your passwords with sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_mysql.sh or pass_webmin.sh, and run nodejs_status.sh from the same folder to see versions and running apps.
The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
