You pay by the hour for running Tart Virtualization on Apple Silicon Mac hosts. The three dimensions map to different EC2 Mac instance types: mac2-m2.metal, mac2.metal, and mac2-m2pro.metal. Each represents a distinct Mac hardware configuration you can select. Billing is usage-based, so you are charged for the hours you run each instance type. There is no upfront commitment. You choose the instance type that fits your workload, and your cost scales with how many hours you run it.

What hardware do the three instance types map to?
Each dimension runs on a distinct Apple Silicon Mac host through EC2 Mac instances. mac2.metal, mac2-m2.metal, and mac2-m2pro.metal each use different Apple chip and resource configurations. You pick the one matching your workload. Tart runs virtual machines on that host, so your choice sets the underlying compute you rent hourly.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops accruing Tart software charges. Underlying AWS charges, such as EC2 Mac host allocation or storage, may still apply separately under standard AWS billing rules for Mac instances.
Can I run multiple virtual machines on one instance at the same cost?
Yes. You pay per instance-hour for the Mac host, not per virtual machine. A single host can run several Tart VMs in parallel, sharing the host CPU cores. Your hourly cost depends on how many instances you run and for how long, not on VM count.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance.
