Higson is a tool for managing business rules: the instructions that tell your enterprise software how your company runs, like which customers are eligible for which products, or how to dynamically price your services.
Higson is a hyper-efficient tool for managing business rules that enables business experts to fine-tune these rules at run-time without relying on IT support.
This makes it easy to respond to rapidly changing circumstances without having to wait for modifications in the software's code.
Business rules can be quickly created or updated without having to go through lengthy and expensive development cycles.
The configuration is organized in a tree of business objects with attributes. Each attribute represents a decision to be made. Higson is compatible with any tech stack, including Java, .Net, and Python.

If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
Higson Studio is offered free of software charge, so you pay only for the AWS EC2 instance you run it on. Pricing is billed per hour and organized entirely around the instance type you select. Options span general-purpose families (t2, t3, t3a, m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5d, m5ad, m5n, m5dn, m5zn) and compute-optimized families (c3, c4, c5, c5a, c5d, c5n, c5ad). Within each family, sizes range from nano and micro up to 24xlarge and bare-metal instances. Larger sizes carry more CPU and memory, so your hourly cost scales with the capacity you choose.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the free software price mean for my total cost on AWS?
The Higson Studio software carries no license charge. You pay only the AWS EC2 instance cost for the type you select, billed per hour of running time. Your total cost equals the EC2 hourly rate for your chosen instance family and size.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges are zero for Higson Studio itself. EC2 charges apply per running instance-hour. A stopped instance stops accruing compute charges, though attached AWS storage may still incur separate fees. You are billed only while the instance runs.
How do I choose between the general-purpose and compute-optimized instance families?
General-purpose families (t, m series) balance CPU and memory for mixed workloads. Compute-optimized families (c series) favor higher CPU per instance. Higson runs high-speed rule processing, with quotations executing in fractions of a millisecond, so compute-optimized types suit heavy rule-execution loads.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
