Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you choose to run this backend server. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, and pricing scales with the compute capacity of that instance. Smaller shared-CPU types like the t2 and t3 families suit lighter workloads. The m3, m4, m5, and m6 families offer general-purpose compute across a range of sizes, from large up to metal instances. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates because they provide more CPU and memory. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type running the packaged Appwrite backend server. The rate covers the software licence metered per running hour. The instance size sets the CPU and memory you receive. The application bundles its libraries, databases, and runtimes so it runs self-contained.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance stops the hourly software meter. Underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still bill separately based on AWS rates. You pay software charges for running hours only.
Choose a smaller instance type, such as a t2 or t3 shared-CPU family option. Smaller instances carry lower hourly rates because they provide less CPU and memory. You can select a larger m3, m4, m5, or m6 instance when your workload grows.
