You pay by the hour for WooCommerce, an e-commerce solution packaged by the vendor to run on AWS. Pricing scales with the EC2 instance type you choose to host the software. The many dimensions map to AWS instance families such as t2, t3, t3a, m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5d, m5n, m5ad, and m5dn. Within each family, larger sizes (from nano and micro up to 24xlarge and metal) carry more CPU and memory, so the hourly rate rises accordingly. You select the size that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get the WooCommerce software running on the AWS EC2 instance you select. The rate covers the packaged application, which bundles the libraries, databases, and runtime it needs. You pay the software rate plus the underlying AWS compute charge for that instance size.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue software charges. You may still owe underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the software meters running hours only.
What makes one instance type cost more per hour than another?
Each instance type maps to a set amount of CPU and memory. Larger sizes within a family carry more resources and bill at a higher hourly rate. The t2, t3, and t3a families offer smaller general-purpose sizes, while m-series families offer larger compute-focused options.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Woefully out of date versions of WooCommerce plugins, can't update
Reviewed on Jun 06, 2021
Review from a verified AWS customer
For example, their WooCommerce Membership plugin is version 1.6.5, which dates from 2016.09.07. Since it's an annual subscription, you can't update this. This particular module has serious bugs and is useless without an update. I suspect the same may be true with other paid WooCommerce plugins. Email to aurora's support email address was bounced.

This one actually works

I tried two other WooCommerce AMIs and couldn't them to work. This one actually works out of the box. Had some difficulty getting Amazon's domain registry working but that was nothing to do with this plugin, just AWS stuff. And if you want SSL, be warned Amazon's Certificates only work with certain web services, not EC2. Recommend using LetsEncrypt to set it up. I followed this and it was pretty straightforward: https://www.arubacloud.com/tutorial/how-to-secure-apache-with-lets-encrypt-on-ubuntu-18-04.aspx
