ZoneHero allows you to save costs on load balancing by managing your fleet of load balancers for you. We provide the control plane, the tooling, and integrate with your existing AWS set-up.
Overview
ZoneHero is a fully managed control plane for an optimized version of envoy proxy that aims to be a drop-in replacement for most AWS ALB configurations.
We provide a terraform provider that allows you deploy our Hero Load Balancer (HLB) solution in your VPC. Your traffic remains in your VPC and you benefit of your existing savings plans, private pricing, and reserved instances. You can deploy HLB alongside your existing ALB and can switch back at any time.
Pricing is on-demand, we charge a LCU fee that is about 75% cheaper than AWS, which should allow you to attain considerable cost savings.
By default, your account will be enabled for use only in us-east-1 and eu-west-1, other regions can be enabled on request.

Dimensions summary
You pay based on usage, measured in Load balancing Cost Units per hour (LCUhour). Pricing depends on the AWS region where you run the service. Two rate tiers apply. The Tier1 rate covers the eu-north-1 region. The Tier2 rate is the default and applies to all regions not assigned to another tier. Your total cost scales with how many LCUhours you consume in each region. The service runs load balancer nodes on EC2 in your own AWS account, so your consumption reflects your configuration and traffic.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
An LCUhour reflects one hour of your load balancer proxy nodes running on EC2 in your own AWS account. Your consumption tracks with your traffic and how your configuration is set up. Optimised configurations use fewer resources, so you accrue fewer billable hours.
The rate you pay depends on the AWS region running the service. The Tier1 rate applies to the eu-north-1 region. The Tier2 rate is the default and applies to all regions not assigned to another tier. If you run across multiple regions, each region bills at its own tier rate.
Software charges meter LCUhours of usage tied to your running proxy nodes on EC2. When nodes run, you accrue LCUhours. The service is fully managed, handling scaling and patching. For the exact behavior of stopped or idle nodes, contact the vendor.
