Ubuntu Pro FIPS is the critical foundation for state agencies administering federal programs and private sector companies with government contracts. Ubuntu Pro FIPS is built upon the power of Ubuntu Pro's enhanced stability, compliance and security features and is maintained to provide your organization with the strongest FIPS foundation now and in the future.
Additional security patches beyond the basic maintenance that comes with Ubuntu ensure all Critical and High CVEs for 28,000 packages are addressed. Kernel livepatch applies security fixes to the live running kernel, ensuring maximum uptime and minimizing operational overhead. Ubuntu Pro FIPS rolls up all the security features Canonical customers enjoy, and enables them automatically with no up front contract required.
Ubuntu Pro FIPS includes Canonical's Ubuntu Advantage Essential offerings for both Infrastructure and Applications such as certification, compliance and hardening profiles including FIPS 140-2, Common Criteria EAL2, CIS and DISA STIG. Security patch coverage expands constantly based on customer priorities and usage patterns.
Ubuntu Pro FIPS is a separate build of Ubuntu certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) with all the additional security capabilities that Canonical provides to enterprise customers including those who operate in regulated environments such as FedRAMP, HIPAA, PCI.

What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Ubuntu on DigitalOcean droplets is how predictable and low-friction it is to run in production. It’s widely supported, so almost every guide, package, and integration assumes Ubuntu first, which makes provisioning and troubleshooting quick. The LTS releases are stable and get security updates for years, so you can standardise across droplets and avoid “pet server” drift.
Package management with apt is straightforward, and the ecosystem around common stacks (Nginx, PHP-FPM, MySQL/Postgres, Redis, Docker) is mature and well documented, which keeps deployments consistent.
On top of that, it plays nicely with automation tools and CI/CD, and it’s easy to harden with sensible defaults like UFW, fail2ban, unattended upgrades, and SSH key auth, which is ideal when you’re managing multiple production droplets.
Package management with apt is straightforward, and the ecosystem around common stacks (Nginx, PHP-FPM, MySQL/Postgres, Redis, Docker) is mature and well documented, which keeps deployments consistent.

What do you dislike about the product?
What I dislike about Ubuntu is mostly the “it depends what you installed last” factor once a server’s been around for a while. It’s easy for droplets to drift if you’re not strict with automation and config management, and then upgrades become a bit of a game of “what will break this time.”
Major version upgrades can be painful on production stacks, especially when PHP/MySQL/Nginx versions and third-party repos are involved, so you often end up planning bigger maintenance windows than you’d like.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu solves the core problem of running reliable servers without having to reinvent the basics every time. On DigitalOcean droplets, it gives a stable, well-supported Linux base with predictable networking, package management, and service control, so spinning up a new environment is quick and consistent. Because Ubuntu is so widely used, most tooling and documentation assumes it, which reduces setup time and makes troubleshooting faster when something goes wrong.

What do you like best about the product?
Widely supported Linux Debian-based distro that is available on most VPS platforms. Free and secure. You can download an ISO and easily install it on your desktop or server. Comes with snap store.
What do you dislike about the product?
Downsides are the lack of built-in support for reproducible environments. However one can install software like Ansible or Saltstack.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu solves a number of problems, chief of which is it provides a familiar Debian-based environment, with a Long Term Support (LTS) upgrade cycle. The platform has all the package management tools one can wish for alongside familiar open source software repos

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is very user friendly and excellent for anyone starting out with linux distros. I installed it during my college time and have been using it till now. it’s stable, easy to use, and developer-friendly. It gives me a clean interface, great package management with APT, strong community support, and the freedom to customize my system exactly the way I want.
What do you dislike about the product?
Even though I really like Ubuntu, there are a few things I dislike—mainly small quirks or limitations that show up occasionally. But I see them as opportunities to learn more, tweak my setup, and make the system work even better for me. Overall, the positives far outweigh the negatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has helped particularly in learning about linux stuff alongside a very user friendly UX. I use it frequently on my personal laptop as primary OS.

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is one of the lightweight operating systems available as open source. Nearly all of our systems run on Ubuntu. It is easy to install on both desktop and laptop machines. The system is very resource-friendly, efficiently utilizing CPU, GPU, memory, and storage. There is no unnecessary bloatware; only useful utilities are included with the downloads. Ubuntu supports almost all the tools and IDEs needed for development and server deployment. For desktop users, it now also offers a good user interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are times when Ubuntu servers become completely unresponsive, and restoring them to a functional state requires a forceful stop and restart. In these situations, a regular reboot or normal shutdown does not work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The majority of our developers rely on this operating system, and most of our servers are also running on it, except for a few that require a specific OS to function.
